That's right, without it. Some people probably already knew, but for thoes that didn't there's this thread.

All you have to do is download it here and then go into your shortcuts properties and add "EnablePhysX=false" to your target line after all the other options.

me and outpost were playing it together tonight, and I have to say, it's a real fun time.

With some settings turned down it doesn't run half bad either.
My rig:
amd 3800+ x2
7800gt
1gb ram
audigy 2 zs

here's some screens of it I took with the fps counter included

as you'll notice, when lots of stuff is flying around fps goes down. However, it was averaging about 20-25
that is on 1280x1024, no hdr, no cloth, shadows and textures at half.

Yeah, I had tried it a long while back and was suprised at how incredibly fast it ran. PPU = useless in my opinion. Of course, if it was in the $50-100 range, it would be well worth it, but its not.

I didnt know it was downloadable, i thought it was a entire game.

PPU's are too new right now to be worth paying more than ~$80 for.

EDIT: However, as I type this, my CPU is attached to a PCIe equipped motherboard that I bought maybe a few months after PCIe hit our shores

I take it that the game requires quite a beast of a machine?
System Recommendations:
AGEIA PhysX Accelerator (not required I guess?)
Windows XP Home, Pro, MCE w/ Service Pack 2
AMD Athlon 64 or higher or Intel Pentium 4 2.5GHz or higher
1 GB System Memory
Shader Model 3.0 Graphics Card (GPU) with 256MB RAM
2GB Free Hard Disk Space

:| Blah.

I've got an
AMD Athlon 2800+ 2.1ghz
Geforce FX5200
1gb ram

Just keep in mind this doesn't mean the PPU is useless. Not only are you still missing out on things in this demo like liquid and cloth physics, which yes are not NECESSARY in THIS demo, but they CAN be in other games, and not to mention other games will probably push this even HARDER with even MORE physics, and SOFT BODIES, which will be sure to take full advantage of your PPU, which would be impossible on a normal machine.

Imagine a racing game with fully simulated cars... Wheels that move as a result of physics, tires that bounce and bend with soft body physics, the entire car made out of metal that can be bent, dented, and torn real time... Now imagine 8 of those at the same time, racing in a physical environment no less. PPU will be used, trust me.

I'mma get this demo and see how it runs, thanks for the info.

Edit: You guys are using the R36 beta right?

omg thank you for this link!! I thought this was a retail game!! i didnt know there was a beta :D I was looking at the trailers a while ago and it looked great. :D

hmmm... when i load up the game I get a white screen o0 with music playing. ughhh

Can someone help me =p I added the tthing into my shortcut and it just loads a white screen with music.

it's useless right now though because nothing can "take advantage" of it, not even their own demo.

That's true of course. I think the only 2 pieces of software for the PC right now that can use it are GRAW and CF.

I assume you say "take advantage" meaning REALLY use it and require it. Because it will eliminate any lag you can get when you blow up a ton of objects without a PPU. Also there is the tearable (not terrible :p) cloth and liquid physics, but those are mainly eye candy so I see your point.

Ugh this is really gay! I want to play this game but I just get a white screen and music running.

p4 3.6ghz
2gb ram
x850xt PE radeon

Ohh nice ill try it out! Is this a game thats coming out in the future or just a tech demo.

OK i got into the game but when i go to start a game it says PARSING SCENE FILES or somthing like that and never loads the map . Whats wrong???

This thing seems to be very very buggy. The menu does not even display for me =p. Othere people are saying the menu buttons dont work and others have trouble loading the map.

works fine for me

the parsing scene files takes a bit, so make sure you don't give up on it too fast.

I'm about to start 'er up- wish me luck! :D

EDIT: Sweet baby jesus. I have a quite solid computer- AMD Athlon 64 3400+, ATi X800 XT PE, 2 gigs of RAM- and... well, when shit was normal, I got maybe 20-30 FPS. HOWEVER, whenever there was a large amount of objects around me (meaning a large percentage of the time) I would get maybe 5 fps tops. This is on extremely low graphics.

D:

I figured it out.

It's those damn tunnels. The geometry on those buggs out MAJOR, and when you look at them, your FPS goes down to 1 ish.

Anybody have any cures?

Parsing scene files? is that when you load? listen... I cant even see the main menu... Main menu music plays, no visible menu.

Edit:

Holy sH** I just tried to open it and it worked this time o0. I crashed in Wow earlier and reboot my comuter a few times and now it works :D

lol im happy

edit: Played the game and it seemeed to run not as bad as I thought. Except- Dont look at the physic cloth piece OMFG your comptuer lags to hell! Is there a way to turn off the physiscs on the cloth?

crap, now when I try to reopen the game im at the same problem as before.

yeah, you can turn off the cloth

keep track of the processes you're running, and try running it with minimal processes open

Yeah, I turned off cloth and it runs smooth as ****ing butter :D

Meh, probably a useless question to ask but...

Should I even bother trying to run it with my rig? (look at pg. 1)

Yes.

Turn everything down and you'll be just fine.

It's not very system intensive at ALL. HL2 pushes my system further ffs.

Alrighty, that's good news I guess n.n

Edit : Can't run it, it says my card needs Shader Model 2.0 o_o

I have to respectfully disagree

I can run hl2 smooth 50 fps or so with everything turned up

this I can get like 15-25 with everything turned down lol

For those who asked, no this is not and will as of now not be a full game, there's a 360 game on the way called CellFactor, but these guys merely got to BORROW the setting from that game for use for this techdemo.:)

It still says parsing files then it goes to this
ConfigFile::GetBool: The value for the key 'StaticShadow' was invalid: 'falseEnablePhysX=false'

Stack Trace:
Address = 0x2b6164f (filenamenot found) [in Platform_Win32.dll]
Precacher::CacheMe() Address = 0x97ef77 (filenamenot found) [in Engine.dll]

You forgot spaces You have staticShadow set to 'falseenablephysx=false'

Change the target line to be like "StaticShadow=false (SPACE!!) EnablePhysX=false"

you have something set to falseenablephyx=false

Space between every command

Thanks it worked but its laggy at times.

so does anyone care about this anymore?

I know I don't really; it's fun for awhile, but if that's all it has to rely on I think it's screwed.

it is

but that's the thing, it's the only thing the ppu has, other than GRAW which wasn't completely up to par... not to mention that neither really benefitted from the card.

Meh, watching the video is still cool. :p
