What do you say?

Release the damn game now, and patch later.

Or complete the thing then release.

And whats with the 16 days all bugs gone. Is that for reals?

You mean crash now, patch later?
And plz, just because they say 16 days doesn't mean it's ready in 30 days.

So very, very tempting but i have to say no. To come this far and let in a few annoying but easily fixable bugs at the last minute is just not worth it.

you're forgetting they're also marketing a singleplayer only version of the game that could not be patched by some users.

There isn't even a question here. It should always be released when completely done. Anything less is stupid, especially if it's done on purpose. There's no point for Valve to work however long they have only to release it two weeks early with obvious bugs. Have some patience.

I say. Do something.

It's bound to come out someday, and then they can update stuff whenever they feel need.

Done.

this thread would be relavent about 4 months ago.
now its close to done .. if they need a month more i say they can have it cause we have waited this long, a couple of more years is no big deal.

Geez. People are complaining about every single comment made by anyone from valve about any subject which suggests the game might be ONE day more than a "summer" release. It just wouldn't be worth releasing it a month (or so) early and patching when all they're going to hear is complaint after complaint.

Their PR and planning abilities are awful and they'd do a lot better correcting those things while finishing the game rather than creating more to complain about so close to release.

The game is all but done...even if not released in a month, it will certainly be released within two or three. Patience young grasshopper; we've waited this long, few more weeks aren't going to hurt, plus Doom3 will keep us all busy.

heh.... I can picture if Valve released a game with a load of bugs, the community would storm Seattle with pitchforks and torches!

I agree with Someone. It really can't be easy to be a VALVe employee right now, the reason they probably never ever post on any forum is because they know that if they did, people would be throwing virtual bricks at them while swearing worse than the whole greek navy at them for wasting valuable time talking to them. Followed by 500 angry E-mails about how VALVe should learn to prioratise.

Patches might take some time, and reviewers also rate the game on compatibility and how many bugs remain.

Every game can be amazing, after patches that constantly fix it, but at the time of the release it would get bad scores and would lose sales as it is still considered a flawed game.

For example SiN, a very good game riddled with bugs. It could have been a very succesful game, but the reviewers gave it low scores due to the bugs at the time of release - even though it considerably got better after patches. The low scores meant low sales for it.

As long as the game can run, i don't care, since it's in a feature complete state regardless of what they decide to do.

I've waited a whole year, and I can bear a month or two. I want valve to give us the most bug-free product as possible. Just imagine the horror that valve releases the game fast just to make us happy and we have that loading bug which takes 5 minutes to the load the darn game, Willdo or whatever was talking about.

I say screw CS S in release, so we dont have to wait for beta testing. And then get CS source later

No, because CS:S is testing the Source engine. Release a game when you don't know if everyone can run it?

I think CS:S was a genius move. Giving CS'rs something to do AND testing out the engine at the same time.

I really dunno what's the deal with CS:S beta since it's higly possible that an RC (which could be appoved for Gold) would have been sent to Vivendi by the time the beta is released, I think is more about checking how source, and source's code works with steam than anything else and if they find some flaws they'll stop the release or get an steam patch.

shame its only 1 map :] de_dust, i think there was a vote and most ppl voted for de_dust2, hope they take the hint!

They never said it is de_dust for sure. Gabe said "..it's prolly just going to be one map like de_dust, for example..." So it could be something else in the end.

But eventually, I think de_dust is what valve is giving everyone for the playtesting - so De_dust it might be.

Seeing how everybody that's taken a trip recently, it seems to be that de_dust was the only map they got to play.

Play now patch later is the thing that makes PC gaming die, stupid mentality of pushing games as fast as possible into the stores to compete with, or avoid other games.
Who wants a game that isn't as good as it could be? Even if it means getting HL2 in 2005 to perfect it, so be it.

Ide rather them fix every single bug (that is possible at the moment) and release it in a few months (which is what their doing by the looks of things) than release it tomorow w/ bugs in.

They won't make HL2 RC if they know of bugs. The moment they can't find a bug for 2-3 days that's when they will say it's a Release Candidate. Then they give it to the publisher (publisher loads the game on a computer.) looks at it for about a day then determins the rating (then declares it's gold). Gold copy get's check for anomilies. They start to print the CD's and Package the boxes.

In the mean time someone at the printing plant makes their own copies and steals the game. Like every good game in history. Printing places always make copies for Reviewers like gaming mags and SITES. They won't notice someone making an extra copy for themselfs.

Then we wait 2-3 weeks for the printing to be done. then we buy the game. ....how novel.

I'd say release at fullversion, I don't want to download 300 mb files for every minor patch
