The game is fun. Just fun. Not "OMFG!! ****ING AMAZING!!" type of fun.

I played with King dedede (seriously this character is way too overpowered if you know how to use him) until I unlocked Snake. The final super moves are cool. Haven't tried the online multiplayer yet.

Single player campaign is just weak.

Anyway, I had fun playing with my buds while drunk. Oh yeah, I ****ing hate pikachu.

I just got it.

Pretty unimpressive. It's just the same old super smash brothers with a couple of extra ho-hum charachters and much better graphics.

I'll wait until I play it with friends to pass judgement.

lol... Smash Brothers has never been OMGSUPERAWESOME, it just stays fun for an extremely long time no matter how much you play it.

O_o I've seen too many people describe SSB as OMGSUPERAWESOME

Yeah but not in the sense that you're overwhelmed with awe at what an amazing game it is like you are after playing HL2 for or TF2 for an hour... mostly just because everyone who plays SSB loves it, for the reason that it takes quite a while to get old.

Then you stop playing and and pick it up like half a year later, and go 'Hey, this is fun.'
Repeat.
I can't wait to try out Zero Suit Samus...

Since it finally has online play now, it should be exceptionally awesome, no?

hmm just played a bunch of 2-minute brawls for 3 hours.

Zero suit samus is very lame. Many of the charachters are simply gimmicks, but since when has super smash not been gimmicky?

Some of the levels clearly were well thought out. For instance, the haunted mansion falls apart as you fight in it, until there's nothing left but a pile of rubble.

I played it for like 4 hours last night with 3 friends.

ZSS is awesome. She has some really good range. The only downside is I don't want to get the smash ball when I'm her because I suck with regular Samus.

I really like Snake so far though. His attacks are all so slow but they do a lot of damage. It's also fun to plan out how to force enemies to land by/on your C4 and blow them to hell.

I liked SSBM quite a bit, but this is a big step up if you ask me.

this game is mother****ing overrated to death. And I'm talking about the level about same as pre Halo 2.

It's a bit overrated, but it's just that people finally have a game to point to and say "THIS is why I want a Wii." Galaxy is fun and awesome, but Brawl is something that you will be playing for years until the next Super Smash Bros (if they come out with one for the next system).

It's basically Melee 1.5, which isn't a bad thing since Melee was awesome already, and with some new third-party characters and online, this is a great package.

I disagree with you all, at times.. ol' Smash Bros can be slap your grandma, pee your pants fun. Just have to have a group of your friends and a fair amount of trash talking in the mix.

First impression: Buy this mother****ing game

Well, SSB shines when you have four friends crowded around the TV shouting at each other and battling furiously, so the addition of online play doesn't really trump that or make it any better than it was in the first place :p It's a nice feature though.

Brawl, I think, is quite nearly unequalled when it comes to four-player local play. My most enjoyable gaming moment ever came from Melee, actually. Myself and three friends were playing on Final Destination, as Marth (myself), Captain Falcon, Link, and Jigglypuff. Three of us ended up battling on the left side, all with at least 100% damage, and Jigglypuff was on the right with about 30%. So while we were distracted, Jigglypuff started charging up her power-roll. Once we were all spread out and standing on the level instead of floating in mid-air, Jigglypuff released the fully-charged roll. But we had noticed at this point, and as Jiggypuff rocketed across the level we all stood perfectly still and calmly hopped over her, one by one, as she fired herself off of the side of the map.

Never have I lol'd so hard at a videogame in my entire life.

My roommate and I, along with a few friends, play the original Smash Brothers on a more or less daily basis. We play together so often that it's more like dancing than fighting, because we all know each others playing styles so well. I can't even count the number of epic lol moments we've had though, especially because we've accidentally caused the game to glitch out majorly several times.

The greatness of Smash Bros. (and it really shows more than ever in Brawl) is how incredibly dynamic and varied the gameplay is.

We were playing traditional Starfox level today and it was just me and one of my buds left, both with one stock. I was playing as Samus, I had just obtained the smash-ball, I backed up to get in prime position for my shot, was shot by lasers from an incoming fighter at the last second. It did barely any damage but knocked the smash ball from my grasp. My friend Ness quickly obtained it and finished me off. My indignation was palpable.

And that's a melee map. Mushroomy kingdom is my favorite new map so far, the scrolling landscape of the first world 1-1 from mario bros. I've only played a few of the new characters (I love pokemon trainer so much), the ones I've been looking to most, sonic and snake, I've yet to unlock. And yet I've felt like I've experienced enough freshness to qualify a more than worthy sequel already.

I rather enjoy the subspace emissary too.

Enjoy the run-on sentences.

Edit: Did I forget to mention how incredibly gorgeous some of the map backgrounds are?

Agreed. Gaming in a room full of mates always beats the crap out of online, but it's a great extra for when nobodies around.

Edge say 9/10 btw.

It's a party game. It's a party game. It's awesome at being a party game.

I played Melee again today. Brawl should be pretty damn good I think.

Is Captain Falcon in it?

Just goes to show that everyone here has different tastes in what they find fun. No matter who you are or what genre of games you enjoy, any game that is surrounded by hype long before it gets released, will often subconsciously sway your expectations.

It is for this reason, that I no longer "follow" the developments of any new game once I initially hear about it. I'll simply spend around 5 to 10 mins reading about it to get the general idea as to what the game is about & if at that time the game appeals to me, then I ignore all further info on the game until it's released & I decide to buy it. A perfect example for me was HL2. I closely followed the development of that game & by the time I got it, I was expecting the "Second Coming" because of all the hype that surrounded the game. Because of that, I ended up thinking HL2 was nothing more a pile of crap.

I very much enjoyed the N64 version of SSB & from time to time I still play it with my daughter (Who tends to kick my arse every time we play) so I look forward to playing the newest version on my Wii. That along with Mario Kart & as long as I don't follow the hype, I know i'll love the game.

I was visiting my grandparents in Toronto yesterday, stayed overnight, and I picked up Brawl while I was there. Just got home and I'm going to go load it up now. I'm rather excited :D

I cant remember my first impression because i was too busy ejaculating all over my pants at how much fun I was having.

From the deepest, darkest most smelly pits of my bowels Nintendo, **** you.

**** YOU.

June? ****ing JUNE for Europe? Get ****ED.

I think that counts as a first impression, lol

If anyone buys Smash Bros. to play single-player, they're an idiot.

I've always enjoyed playing through all the event matches, especially the ridiculously hard ones at the end. Subspace Emissary is decent fun as well. I do agree with you though, SSB has always been about beating the shit out of friends.

I'm really enjoying the game. I'm somewhat addicted to the little Achievement wall thing they put in it.

Me and my whole family love playing this game together. lots of fun as party game.

but dear god it can be unbalanced some times. . .

Yeah, you've gotta turn off some items like the final smashes, the dragoon, and assist trophies if you want a more balanced match. Otherwise things can get pretty out of hand! :P

The "Subspace Emissary" mode is both awesome and terrible at the same time. The cutscenes for each level were the awesome... but the levels themselves were the terrible. Playing it 2-player severely screws you over too... same amount of lives as doing it singleplayer so there's lots of "continuing", which doesn't seem to have any other drawback other than going back to the last door, but it's still really annoying.

The regular brawls are where it's at of course... I'm a fan of 1v1 3 stock or 2v2 with 5 stock with final smashes and crap off as well as really long timed matches with all items. :)

Finished unlocking all the characters just a little while ago (Jigglypuff of all things was the last one)... my favorite guys are Wolf, Lucario, Sonic, and R.O.B. so far. Wolf especially, which I didn't expect... Metaknight, Toon Link, and Olimar are pretty neat too. The carryovers from melee are kinda boring since most 'em have like the exact same moveset as before... and I was a Mewtwo player in that game, who they inexplicably CUT for this one so I'm left to find a new guy!

Yes, but Brawl is better.

Heck, I haven't even played it yet, but I know that it's awesome. I'm also a member of smashboards and nobody here comes close to being a Nintendo Nerd compared to them.
