players on lan cannot join same server???

hello. Me and my friend recently setup a lan in our student house and we love playing hl2 deathmatch... however we can never find a server that we can both get onto. One of us manages to get on however the other one receives a server error saying they couldnt connect... any ideas why??? Thanks

Are you sure it is a LAN server? Make sure sv_lan 0 has been typed into the server console. Also, make sure you don't have your firewalls on, as they often block LAN playability or visibility. And you don't need firewalls if you're only on a LAN anyway

afrospaceman - The reason you can't both join is because the server won't accept two clients from the same IP address. I know it sucks, but thats life.

are you using the same steam account?

Link, not true. it won't accept two users on the same Steam ID, but IP doesn't matter.

I play with my brother all the time, from the same IP, we have different Steam accounts though.

Sorry let me clear that up a little

Um... me and my mate both want to play on the internet on the same server however theres only like one server that lets us both play at the same time. (ps we both have our own steam accounts) its just a bit odd if one server works and some others dont.
