Can people please do some research on the weapon they are producing. Most of the guns out there will press the barrel down when shooting or in empty position. It's quite noticable, but still people don't care. If I see another image of a model with the barrel in a straight position when fired or empty, I'll beat myself to death...

Wtf you talking about man..? "Pressing the Barrels Down" Duh.. Perhaps "you" should do some reasearch yourself buddy, on how to articulate, and make yourself understood, in the correct and proper manner..! :bounce:

I don't understand what you mean either... besides, I haven't seen any animations yet from the mods...

EDIT:
Ohhhh I get it now... It's not the barrel, it's the sldie. Yea what he's talking about is the part above the barrel called the slide. When you shoot it goes backwards to fetch the next bullet. And when there are no more bullets left, it's stays there.

correct me if I'm wrong.

See the pic

My P99 airsoft gun did that, when you pulled the slide back the barrel would be at an angle which made it unparallel (if that's a word) with the slide (not as extreme as in the pic)

From Mikademius' description, I think that's what he means

I think he's talking about pistols only, with the slide caught back (what of course happens when the gun is shooting, too)

(Hahaha @ pic, Murray; but you're right)

Hehe, nice pic there.

I see what you mean Mikademius.

I still don't understand what milk is talking about. He knows enough to not confuse the slide and the barrel, so I don't think he's going on about the slide.

Maybe he means on guns with vented barrels when the gas released pushes the barrel down ?

I have no idea wth he is talking about really...

No no no! When a pistol (!) is shot, the slide is thrown back and reveals great parts of the barrel -> at the slide-back position the barrel is pressed upwards, like in Murray's picture; it's not straight anymore, like it is in normal-slide position.

Yes this is true, however, in my opinion, its such a minor detail that there is no point in spending the time on putting it into a model. Besides, even if it was put in I would be doubtful that you would even be able to notice the difference.

mikdemius could u show us examples of this in either pictures or drawings?
it would be muc appreciated.

when fireing that happens within a fraction of a second also, like Bolleh says it's doubtful that anyone will notice unless you are making a mod similar in realism to Operation Flashpoint.

Plus its alot of extra modeling

He's talking about this:
uspexpertbbl.jpg

Notice how the barrel is tilted upwards a little, it's not quite parallel to the slide.

Nice picture Murray :D
The slide forces the barrel downwards with a pivot in the back.
It's noticable when you're out of bullets. And it hurts to see GI renders ignoring this :)
Here's a mov to demonstrate.

barrel2.avi (divx)

brisck1: Extra modeling? how. Extra rigging maybe, 5 minutes tops.

slap: No need to be rude.. I've done enough research on the subject.

not all of the pistols barrels do taht..
oldfaq

and nich glock lol, highpoly

At the end of the day i dont really think it matters to much, at i dont really see why its ******ling at you :) but i do kow what your talking about :)

you wont even really notice that ingame and whats wrong with a little bit of imperfection eh mikademius ?

Whoa, you actually cared about something that minor?

I care. Mikademius brings up a very valid point. More realism good.

Here's a pic from IchI's VTM

mindless: Imperfection in weapons. I'd want mine to work ;)
Computer5k: What's funny is that Itchy didn' care either :)

I also care about the reload error in CS and the mirrored models in CS. It's annoying. And still, when your gun is empty you notice ;)
Also, I'm a nazi on this as you can see on my models, I always want to get it 100% + Unfortunately, you rarely can :(

And last , but not least...details is everything!

Its a detail you would hardly even notice from the view perspective. Its pointless to add it on IMO. And yes I do know what your talking about, my airsoft glock does it.

Why would you care about something that is so incredibly hard to notice, especially when you're in first person and a fair amount of the gun can't be seen?

I guess working with 3d has ruined my way to just see a movie or play a game without digging deeper. I watched the incredibles last night, but I was thinking rigging, mesh etc. etc...instead of enjoying the action....

it would be noticable when reloading... but I have decided (for my past models) to leave the barrel straight so that the unknowing wouldnt mistake the tilted barrel for a modeling error.

That is actually a safety feature for most semi-pistols... I thnk the glocks are most noticable.

I don't care about this detail. Don't include it unless you really want to!

I really couldn't care less about it. Games aren't meant to be perfectly realistic. If you want that much realism you might as well throw out half the stuff in the game for not being "realistic."

I think you'd be better off beating yourself to death

Here is a picture of my Springfield XD with the slide back. If someone wants to implement this in the mod, all the animator really needs to do is add a bone for the barrel and angle it up during reload animations.

And you are sure that this is not a cheap HFC Glock 17 airsoft atrocity...? Well... I am :)

Actually, it is an XD in .40 S&W. You want a picture of it field stripped?

I came SO close to buying one of those in .40 S&W or a Glock 22 this july. I decided to use the 500 for a 6800 ultra.

that glock model is amazing.

well, not everyone owns a berreta 92 or a hk socom, so they polly won't notice it, for us gun nerds....well...we'll just have to live with it..

You don't need to own a gun at all to notice it, to say nothing of a $2000 HK, anybody who's seen a photo of an automatic handgun with the slide back has probably noticed, it really sticks out.
