IT DOES NOT HAVE A MANDATORY SUBSCRIPTION! This has been discussed and told 1000 times here in the forums, it is a option, you can buy the game single player, you can buy it multi and single in stores, or you can pay 10 a month and not have an initial fee, jesus. check the valve info thread, or try a search perhaps dude, and what does that picture have to do with the topic? *hates lazy peeps*

lol, making halflife2 multiplayer cost money each month would be the END of valve. Like he said, there are different ways to buy the game.

Though, while in here, can someone tell me if steam is required to play hl2 online? Like the game wont have an in game brower? I saw it in the other thread but i didnt know if it was a rumor or fact.

yes I believe it will be required although since they are switching normal hl over to steam and said it will still be able to be used through 3rd party applications I'm sure the same will probably be true for hl2.. but it has to go through steam to work anyway regardless of where you find the server.

Yes Steam is required for multiplayer, but I don't know if an in-game browser will be used or not. I would think you'd log onto Steam from within the game and then start searching for servers to play on. This would seem to be the most reasonable way to do it.

HL2 will probably have an in-game Steam-based browser. Kind of like how some games implement GameSpy directly as in-game browsers, HL2 will do the same with Steam, just like CS 1.6.

I'm going to kill this puppy if I see another one of these threads!

At least it's not a release date thread.

EDIT: Say, think I'll go make one of those right now...

Why are you people lying to him?

Yes as a matter of fact HL2 will require a monthly suscription fee of 18 Canadian dollars.

I do hope you're being sarcastic. It requires a montly subscription if you get the game via Steam (i.e. download), but it will NOT if you purchase the retail version.

Joke... funny... haha? no? nevermind I'll drink myself into a stupor and laugh at my own jokes.

Thought that's what everyone on here did. Now I feel so alone... *sniffle*

EDIT: But seriously, I'd like to see in that e-mail Gabe sent where exactly that was mentioned, because I must've browsed over it.

Guys. If you subscribe to Steam, you get EVERYTHING. EVER. So while I buy a copy from the store, I also have to buy the expansion packs (like every other game). Steam users just get them, because they have a subscription.

Personally, I doubt Valve can come out with enough stuff (a $30 expansion pack every three months?) to make it worthwile, but we'll see.

They'll work Minh off his ass.

Gabe: "We need a CS 3, damnit!"

Minh: "But, but..."

Gabe: "DO IT!!!" *whip cracks*

* Logic groans @ thread

This has been done to death. A little searching would have answered your question for you.

That's actually not true. It's been said that you can buy the game over steam without subscribing, for a one off fee, just as if you ordered the game.
