Parents have so many delusions regarding MP3's it's not even funny. The worst two offenses are:
1. Deleting MP3s can prevent you from being sued and having MP3's on your hardrive is illegal. Obviously this is not true at all. If you don't want the RIAA to see your MP3 collection, just copy it to a non-shared directory.
2. Downloading MP3's is illegal. While I'm not 100% sure what the law is, but so far the RIAA only went after people who distribute MP3's, not the ones who download them. Besides it would be nearly impossible for the RIAA to track who is downloading MP3's while it's very easy to see who's sharing them.
