HELP!!!! i have jus got half life one, from a friend and after playing HL2 i tohught it was good to play the prequal but anyway, but i installed halflife one and it came up with 'could not validate you cd' what do i do?????? plz help !!!! i know it is a HL2 fourum jus thought some people may now.......thanks

Did you install the game from an original retail CD, or are you trying to register its key with Steam? With Steam, you can register CD keys for the original Half-Life retail packages and download and play all the original Half-Life games and add-ons through Steam.

If you're trying to do this, and your friend had already done so previously, then you will not be able to register the key with Steam. If you really want to be able to play Half-Life through Steam, you will need to contact Steam Support, although it may not be possible. Alternatively, or if you have installed the game from the original CD without using Steam, you should be able to play the game without activiation, as long as you entered the key correctly. I suggest uninstalling Half-Life and reinstall it, and make sure you enter the key correctly.
