they should have just used a steam roller to run over the perp; that way they could have been judge jury and executioner all at once ..save on tax payer money

he could have easily killed the perp at the speed he was going, it was intentional. obviously not a whole lot of respect for human life displayed by police officer bellic

I don't know, looked kind of tame to me. Not the first time I've seen something like that. I'd estimate he was only going 25-30 KM/H

To me it seemed excessively fast. I've seen police officers do this sort of thing before... but it's often at at least 1/4th the speed... because they're just trying to upset the balance of the perpetrator so that he'll stumble enough or fall so that officers can swarm him.

I do admit that was the fastest I've seen a cop pull that manoeuvrer.

video doesn't work for me

what he do run into the perp?

what happened?

Cops are chasing him, he pulls into a residential area. Crashes into a parked car. Gets out, some police cruisers roll past as they stop and get out, and the guy is on the lawn and a police cruiser charges down the lawn and slams into the guy at like 30mph, causing him to be tossed to the side like a ragdoll.

The cops then swarm him... cuff him, and force him up and they walk him to the cruiser, I guess waiting for an ambulance. He seemed like he could walk, and was walking, so I don't think he was too badly hurt, but it could have easily crippled him.

Hit him with a car? Ouch.

A friend of mine was killed in a high speed car chase about 10 years ago. She was barely an adult. It was just a DUI, she shouldn't have attempted to eluded them, but cops are a often a little too overzealous.

what happened?

it rammed over the chased and started beating in on the floor and taked all the money and run away ona tank that magically apeared in mid air

That I would pay to see.

Anyway, what is it with you guys and high-speed chases/using cars as weapons?

I never really understood all those chases on Cops; how could they actually happen?

That guy got totally owned, but he deserved it for running from the police and driving at excessive speeds on the wrong side of the road putting others lives at risk just because he didn't want to face the consequences of his actions. However I'm sure someone will find some reason to disagree with that

what was his crime? besides running from cops? is a death sentence justified if the crime was a traffic violation or a stolen vehicle? or must it be more severe than that? because the outcome of the cop car hitting the perp could have been death

While I agree it's a bit too much, the cop might not have seen him. It's quite simple, really, he might've wanted to stop on the left side of the car and cut off his escape route, but suddenly the guy jumped in front of his car.

Stern, the fallacy you are committing is that you are assuming the cop consciously hit the guy with the cruiser, which is false. He was slamming the brakes, look where the car stopped.

I cant watch the video but you're speculating just as I am ..moreso because you have nothing to back up your claim

I watched the chase from the minute they started broadcasting it on the news (around 35-40 minutes in)...they said the guy was wanted for something but they didn't say what it was. During the chase he drove through gas stations, parking lots, over grass (when he saw a guy trying to put spike strips down), and even onto the wrong side of the road where he proceeded to drive against oncoming traffic at triple digit speeds (obviously he had a ton of regard for other driver's lives). To me it was quite obvious that he was wanted for something a bit more serious than stealing an old lady's purse...The guy pulled onto the grass at the end and the cop who hit him probably didn't have as good control slamming on his breaks in the grass and rammed into the guy.

Cops could take plate number... Look them up later. Which is what they whould have done if he got away. Chasing after someone like that for 40 min is insane. Only in America people.

Here we go.... All cops are stupid/bad/evil/power hungry amirite?

/sarcasm

lol... Vehicle was probably stolen. Can't just rely on the license plate being a way to track them down later.

you dont know that ..it could have been he was smoking a joint and didnt want to get pulled over, or he thought he could outrun and didnt feel like stopping or has a distrust of cops in general (not that that's much of a stretch)

I had a friend who was involved in police chase (he was a bit crazy in his youth) and all he did was steal a pack of cigarettes from a gas station (he got away)

The guy pulled onto the grass at the end and the cop who hit him probably didn't have as good control slamming on his breaks in the grass and rammed into the guy.

you're speculating, he could have stopped on the other side of the car ..to me it looked like he aimed the car into the person ..I've seen this dozens of times, but usually at much lower speeds, there's not much evidence to support the fact that hhe cop car just wanted to stop, it's part of police tactic in apprehending people in vehicles

I love how Stern is all about saying everybody else is speculating while throwing out what he thinks as it's truth while badgering people about why they are wrong with what they think.....but I digress.

I wish he woulda broke the guys legs...he stole the car knowing damn well he shouldn't....a little jail time won't prevent him from doing it again.

there's another truism about this community: no one ever reads anything that's posted

On the supposition that it was deliberate:

Even if he had been a mass-murderer, it would have been immoral. Trials, and laws, exist for a reason. The only situation in which the police would have any right to harm him at all would be in directly protecting themselves or others from a similar level of harm, which is only the level of self-defence that all citizens are allowed.

You don't get to murder people in contravention of due process because they happen to be running away from the police, lol.

You're quoting and arguing with people without even seeing the video first. Cool Stern.

hey lets just turn this thread into a discussion about stern, why dont we?

I watched the video before posting, I just couldnt review it a second time

Chases are a public menace. They have helicopters and radios, it's unnecessary. Apart from the vehicular hazards, the cops get all hopped up on adrenaline and usually beat the crap out of whoever they're chasing when they finally catch him, for no real reason.

Also, 1337.

It was a little harsh, but I really don't care when you consider the fact that the moron put other innocent people in life danger by violating traffic laws.

Sure cops can be jerks, but I think it's just the popular thing to always look at the cop as "the bad guy", but I guarantee you if you were a cop under that sort of pressure you'd do so many of the same things they do.

This is kinda like the other thread where some were mad that a cop shot a guy because he was beating a toddler to death. "Ooooo, Mr. Policeman so bad, he is supposed to be more mature!", F*cking double standards for everything. I hate the lame ass "But the bad guy is human too" argument, hey guess what, the cop is human as well! Oh, but I guess it only absolves the criminal of a more serious crime but bashes the cop for a much more trivial action. Yeah, okay.

you dont know that ..it could have been he was smoking a joint and didnt want to get pulled over, or he thought he could outrun and didnt feel like stopping or has a distrust of cops in general (not that that's much of a stretch)

Come on, that is the worst argument ever and makes your point seem even more invalid.

That's like if a teacher was going to give a detention to a student for shouting out "F*ck!" in class, so the student, not wanting a detention attempts to stab other students and the teacher several times with a pen, so the teacher hits the kid to protect himself and other students.

Billy: "He punched me!"
Cop:"But Billy you tried to stab your teacher and fellow students"
Billy: "But, but, I was jus' angry cause he gave me a stupid detention cause all I did was swear!"
Cop: "OH MY, HE DID?! THAT COMPLETELY JUSTIFIES YOUR ACTIONS"

Everyone's a friggin' "victim" these days.

I agree that chases, in most circumstances, are a bad idea. It endangers the officers, the suspect, and worse by far, it endangers the public. Ive seen countless chase videos where an innocent civilian gets seriously injured or killed do to a car chase. Its just stupid.

That said, I'm pretty sure the cop was trying to stop but didnt anticipate the grass's effect on his braking speed. His brake lights looked like they were on the entire time the vehicle was on screen. Also, He definitely wasn't going 30 miles an hour, considering even in the grass he stopped about 10 feet after hitting the guy. At most, I'd say he was going 15 miles an hour. Look at this chart, it shows the normal stopping distance at various speeds, and thats on pavement.

I'm pretty sure after the first live hit everyone at Fox was like "Oh shit, hey bob, jill, jenny, frank come look at this haha!"

obviously not a whole lot of respect for human life displayed by police officer bellic

Let me guess. The suspect did display respect for human life? Hmm. Swerving in and out of traffic at very high speeds, and driving on the wrong side of the road. Or... Hitting the suspect at >20mph......

And it pisses me off how people on this forum try to portray policemen and americans in general as being A) Stupid B) Homicidal death loving humans C) War loving citizens etc etc. Many people here I wont say names trumpet around posting this and that stories about this cop did that or this troop did this or this politician did that but the moment something else is posted that puts a negative view on their countrymen they go all up in flames and start pissing bullets.

have a nice day everyone.

? ...he's a criminal do you expect him to be as virtous as the freakin pope in all areas except excessive speeding, reckless endangerment, and destruction of police property (broke nightstick with face)

how are police and americans at all related except as tools to further your agenda that us yuropee-ans/kanuckistanis hate America? it's funny how some people need to lump all americans/police into one catagory just because one bad apple happens to tase someone to death/invade 2 nations ..sound familiar? well it's what you're doing when you assume stories such as this one are indicative of what police or americans are ..as if one person accurately represents 300,000,000 people

have a nice day everyone.

oh thank you very much, and you have a lovely weekend

He was saying that a lot of people here, such as yourself, post news articles and stories about americans and cops that have only negative views.

Good for the officer.
^This.

I detest thieves. I've had the displeasure of being involved in a theft myself before of over $1,000.

I would've done a smokey burnout on his head while he was down.

I dont get it ...you mean you guys want to read boring stories where a police officer helps an old lady cross the street? come on shit sells. it doesnt mean that a single event or even a handful of events are indicative of the whole.
