Police officer thinks he's Niko Bellic

This is the internet. One event is perfectly indicative of an entire country in the minds of internet people. And yes, I would like to see stories of police helping others and just happy stories in general. Like the one where the police bought that kid new stuff after his got stolen. That was a good thread.

There was this one story in the newspaper, A cop started a teddy bear fund for orphaned kids of drunk driving, he gave away a total of like 15,000 bears bought with money out of his own pocket.

well there you go, someone posted a thread about cops, american cops to boot, that did good ............so what are you complaining aboot?

remember that thread about South Park's portrayal of canadians, god it seemed like yesterday, remember someone asked if canadians were offended by South park's portrayal of canadians and the majority of us canadians said we didnt care because it's not like it was an acurate portrayal of canadians .....maybe there's something to that .......

One good cop thread doesnt even out with the innumerable bad ones. And you cant compare a couple episodes of south park to the countless real incidents posted here on hl2.net. It gets tiring, because in every one of the threads there are a few people who take the opportunity to jab at americans or police in general. Every... damn... thread. Sometimes they're joking, sometimes not, either way its getting obnoxious.

how are police and americans at all related except as tools to further your agenda that us yuropee-ans/kanuckistanis hate America? it's funny how some people need to lump all americans/police into one catagory just because one bad apple happens to tase someone to death/invade 2 nations ..sound familiar? well it's what you're doing when you assume stories such as this one are indicative of what police or americans are ..as if one person accurately represents 300,000,000 people
I believe he was talking about posts such as the following-
Anyway, what is it with you guys and high-speed chases/using cars as weapons?

I never really understood all those chases on Cops; how could they actually happen?

Cops could take plate number... Look them up later. Which is what they whould have done if he got away. Chasing after someone like that for 40 min is insane. Only in America people.

That occured in this thread, and all the thousands of similar posts in the thousands of similar threads, probably the majority of which you've posted.

there's another truism about this community: no one ever reads anything that's posted

That's for damn sure.

what was his crime? besides running from cops? is a death sentence justified if the crime was a traffic violation or a stolen vehicle? or must it be more severe than that? because the outcome of the cop car hitting the perp could have been death

For real? It's folks who think like you do that make criminals start screaming "rights violations" if the handcuffs are too tight or the officer's badge was too shiny and hurt their eye. The hell with it, let's just get rid of prisons and let everyone just be "human".

If I remember correctly... (and I'm sure you'll be quick to point out any flaw)... being a criminal is... wrong? Breaking laws, however minute on the grand scale of life, makes you a criminal. If you are a criminal, and then double your stupidity-quota by running from those who are sworn to protect and serve US--the general, law-abiding citizens, you deserve whatever happens to you.

Chasing a suspect who is on the run is one of the most dangerous scenarios a law enforcement officer faces. The variables on the outcome are mindblowing. They are trained to work through several variables, and find the path of least resistance. Civilian casualties are to be minimized, at all costs.

Had the "perp" (you watch too much NYPD Blue) mowed down a preschool class out on its daily walk, and the cop ran him over to save the busload of elderly people who were next in the path, would you still have bothered to post this thread? I highly doubt it. The cop was forced to make a choice. Why don't you go out, go through the boot camps, the trainings, the academy... earn a badge, and then see how you react in the scenario.

Armchair police officers are no better than Monday morning quarterbacks.

they're just saying that it's not typical of their own countries, which it's not ..or else they wouldnt have said so

I think sulkdodds explained it best:

Even if he had been a mass-murderer, it would have been immoral. Trials, and laws, exist for a reason. The only situation in which the police would have any right to harm him at all would be in directly protecting themselves or others from a similar level of harm, which is only the level of self-defence that all citizens are allowed.

You don't get to murder people in contravention of due process because they happen to be running away from the police, lol.

but most of you glossed over or ignored his post

btw I've never watched a single episode of NYPD Blue

who you and your handful of cretins? put me on ignore, it's like I'm not even here

Ah, hahahaa, Stern's two-piece head is flapping! :D

/kidding

You can post some pretty depressing/anger inducing anti-American threads sometimes Stern, and it can be downright annoying sometimes, but you still have a good, lol worthy sense of humor.
I'll give you that.

hey dont get pissed at me cuz I report something that happens in your country ...dont shoot the messenger and ignore the message and all that

anyways some of you need to lighten up

if he was braking (i didn't look very closely at both angles) then it looks like he made a mistake by cutting off his escape route too close to the car/the guy was faster than anticipated

if he wasn't then that's a bit fast and that's also a mistake but at least the guy was okay

I had never met any Canadians before I joined here, so if you are the only Canadian I know, then that is the only exposure I have to go on.

Therefore, for at least a couple years, until I started to get to know other Canadians here, I thought all Canadians were anti-American.

In 2006 or 7, after dealing with your upsetting opinion of Americans for a while, I went to my Dad, who is always on top of the world news, and I said something like, "Damn Canadians. Why do they hate America so much anyway?" And he had a completely different view of Candians, since he hasn't met you. He said, "Canadians are very nice people". I said, "So they don't hate us?" and he just repeated himself, "Nope. Canadians are very nice people."

I dont get it ...you mean you guys want to read boring stories where a police officer helps an old lady cross the street? come on shit sells. it doesnt mean that a single event or even a handful of events are indicative of the whole.
We do want to hear good stories. While not likely to garner as much attention as the man humping a park bench, or a police officer caught beating an old lady, there are still interesting 'feel good' stories out there.

Perfect opportunity to sue the hell out of the police.

It reminds me of American football. Whenever theres a big hit everyone in the crowd goes "OOOOH!" and get all giddy. In fact, that hit looked very much like many big hits in football.

**** yeah football!
