fixed mine, how about the rest of you. and feel free to comment. IF YOU NEVER HAD STUTTERS VOTE "WHAT STUTTERS?" would be cool if you would put your system specs too so we can see if there is any trends. mine are: p4 1.8ghz ,512mb sd ddr ram, radeon 9700 pro, sound blaster live, intel pendelton 2 motherboard

I dont know if it has, because i'm not sure if its even updated. It doesnt say anything new in the update news section

Did nothing, memory error kills me before I can get 3 seconds into a game.

start steam and right click the icon in your taskbar and select monitor, if its updateing it'll tell you details, if it's not updateing then you got it

Well it was updating early today and then finished. So i tried the game and it still stuttered so i guess no then.

Yes! Gameplay is now totally smooth except for autosaves!!

Load times are longer (an obvious tradeoff), but its worth it.

Good job, VALVe!

the update just came out, how do you expect people to get on that quick :p

Im sorry to say it didnt fix it for me :(

Im starting to think its somthing to do with my system/setup,
Maybe I should just kill myself.

nup didnt fix it and load times are longer

my specs are

AMD Athlon 2400+
ATi Radeon 9600XT 256
256MB System PC2700 RAM
WD 80GB HDD (8MB)
Gigabyte GA-7VA MoBo

This really sucks the game is so ****in awesome but i cant play it smotthly which pisses me off considering i bought this rig to b ready for HL2 last september.

I had the stuttering problem while using High quality textures, but on Monday I bought more RAM (went from 512mb to 1024mb) and it doesn't stutter at all anymore. So it seems that the stuttering was caused by not enough memory (for me anyway).

No problemo!

And I have this computer:

2.0 Ghz
256mb RAM SD
32mb GeForce MX 440

And HL2 runs perfect, no problems, lag etc.

I don't think that's really what is being asked about here. ;)

If it still stutters for you, make sure your system can cope with high quality settings. I had mine on high and it stuttered all the time, but on medium it dissapeared entirely.

Note: I only wanted to show ppl how bad pc you can have to run HL2 :D

Are you saying he has a bad computer?

It's better than 900 mhz geforce 2 which is what a lot of people are still suck with.

I used to have very very slight stutter, just as autosaves and first 3 seconds of a new level. But now after this update, its become worse.

The stutter now feels like severe lag, and can run through a whole level. It feels like the kinda lag I used to get on 56k playing quake 3 where I would get connection interruption sometimes so the whole game stops and starts off somewhere else.

Hopefully a reboot/defrag will sort this out, or theres a way to turn off whatever this newest update did. Would be a shame to be able to only play hl2 well once, and now during my second play I get this unplayable bs.

i voted NO (because there was a lack of an I DON'T KNOW option :p ). i've had them since day 1, and i still get them to a certain degree, although they're not as prevalent. i can't say the latest update has fixed it, as i've been trying every launch option i can, updating my drivers where possible, using tweakguides, changing in-game settings, etc.

one of those things has minimized the amount of stuttering, but i can't put my finger on what one thing (or combination of things) really did it.

At the very begining of the game the Gman used to stutter a bit.

I have;

P4 2.8 HT
1Gb Legs of Lamb @ 400 Mhz
5900 FX Ultra 256 mb

But I have the settings at;

1280 x 1024
AA x2
AF x8

Since the patch and the latest 71.20 Nvidia drivers I can run sweet at the spec above with only a slight pause on Autosaves, the stuttering has now gone at the start of the game. That was the only part it did it, and it doesn't anymore so yes it did fix it.

Weird - for me load times have gotten shorter! Yes, I don't know why, but I'll take it!

i still get 4 seperate stutters before even getting off the initial train. so no, the patch didn't do anything but make the load times longer. sigh.

p4 3.2
1 gig ram
6800gt with latest whql drivers (latest beta drivers didn't fix it either)
audigy 2 platinum pro with latest drivers
all video settings on high except for reflect: world and only 2x antialiasing.

Okay, I downloaded the cracked version of Half-Life 2 the day after it came out. It did have stuttering problems. But, what I was amazed by was that the crackers came out with a patch that fixed the stuttering like the thrid day. Well, I beat the game with the cracked version and it ran perfectly and no stuttering. Now I just bought the game off of steam (Sliver Package) and it stutters horribly and lags. Thats just weird. The crackers came up with a patch the third day and now after VALVe has released this new patch I still get the stuttering. I just can't believe that the cracked version runs better on my computer than the retail version. This patch did not fix the stuttering for my retail copy of Half-Life 2. :(

LMAO, don't be going that far now buddy. If you do send me the clip ;)

Now this is weird. Yesterday, my stuttering was cured. Then I turn on the game today and find that it is as bad as it's ever been?

WHY, VALVE, WHY?
