The later Valve releases Multiplayer information, the more innovative and surprising it will be. Assuming it's going to be innovative and surprising. ;)
I think it will. The physics alone make it worth it for me.

but other games(doom3,stalker, etc) will be able to use hl2's ideas, since they will be released later than hl2. We only heard about the doom3 physics after every other companies had anounced the physcis implemented in their games. I can't say doom3 stole the idea from other company, but it's possible that they have to implement some sort of physics in the doom3 engine becuz physics just becomes the standard for every other upcoming videogame engine. Valve just can't hide their ideas from other companies, unless they will never ever release hl2.

For the multiplay, I'm hoping it to be something really original, something big, something amazing. however, my logic tells me not to expect so much from hl2 mp and I think that hl2 mp is just going to be normal dm, teamdm stuff. Usually, games that are great, original and big, no matter sp or mp, will have tons of previews available online before they are released, such as rtcw:ennemy territory, bf1942 etc. Have u heard of red faction multiplay previews? Me no, i never saw any, cuz redfaction mp is just normal dm, teamdm and ctf, there's nothing original, nothing worth talking, nothing worth to preview in redfaction mp. Maybe it's also the case for hl2 mp. If hl2 mp is normal dm, teamdm stuff, why should valve put a big deal in releasing info on hl2 mp? this is what i think concerning hl2 mp, I hope i'm wrong here. I'm saving up money for the big Sept 30th release, i want to enjoy it as much as possible.

One thing is bothering me so much, I don't know which videocard to buy. I have seen in the ut2003 and 3d Mark(not sure) benchmark that GF5900 beats ati9800 256mb. However most of people advise me to buy the radeon cards and they tell me that ati 9800 work better than gf5900 with directx9 games. Man what should i do?? plz don't link me to the hardware forum, i just came from there.

please give some respond to my argument about why hl2 mp is just going to be norml dm and teamdm.

Well, it's hard to say. People knew about BF because the game was designed around that CTF-like system. The main stuff in HL2 will probably be good old DM,TDM,CTF etc.
There will be other things I'm sure though

Read them yourself and make an informed decision. The first one really explains it all.
I don’t know how anyone could objectively look at the performance we’ve seen in these benchmarks and conclude that a 5900 Ultra is a smarter buying decision than a 9800 Pro – even the 128MB 9800 Pro (as used in the tests here) trumps the lofty 256MB 5900 Ultra.

As for multiplayer, my guess is they are saving the real innovation for TF2 and HL2 will have basic DM.

I think it'll have the slew of standard game modes (DM, Team DM,CTF, LMS) and one original gameplay mode. (Much like UT2K3 with Bombing Run)

Huh, he contradicts himself
The 9800 trumps the 5900, yet, it's smarter to get a 5900

I'm pro ATi BTW, but I hope that's a typo

You might want to read it again, a little slower this time.

I guess this proves to not do drugs, or that I should read the top.

ok, so far it sounds good, but i want to hear those who think that hl2 mp is going to be something original.

I have read them already. I'm sorry for my english, can u translate the following text to some easier understanding english:

Are they saying that 5900 is better than ati 9800 according to the benchmarks??? Or are they saying the opposite and that even the 128MB 9800 pro is better than gf5900 in one of their tests. PLease translate, i know i suck in english, i keep learning english everyday.

They are saying two things at once:
The 128Mb 9800Pro does better than the 256Mb 5900 Ultra.
They are questioning the decision of others that the 5900 Ultra is a good buying choice. (When in fact, it isn't, the ATI is considerably better.)

Thank you. that's how i understand it the first time i read it, but i got confused whenever i read it again.

Said it before many times:
You only have HL2 models to play with (possibly small additions, like 5 extra player models or whatever, or different skins). Its only so much you can do that actually makes sense. But there are still to many unknown variables to say... Gabe has said you travel all over the world, not just City 17. So we cant say the MP maps will be based on just City 17. There is TONS of unknown enemies (how many have we seen really? Strider, combine, headcrab, antlion and zombie?) that could be used. So we cant say its just gonna have the strider or combines etc in it. And we have absolutely no idea about the gameplay modes, if they follow the standard path or not.

Its like trying to guess how BF1942 will play by looking at a jeep with an american soldier sitting in it, with green grass and a house in the background.

i hope to god its just deathmatch cos i hate team game crappy things....as long as they include bots aswell :D

DM doesnt realy suit HLs phisics and movement speed. IF they made all that less realistic for online play it could be cool. The only HL DM that works is the specalists and thats only becuse theyve completely rewriten the movement, something i dont think valve will bother doing.

WTF is "pro ATi"???

How about modifying it to something a bit more intelligent, like mine:

"I'm pro 'market competition'. If I need a card at the moment and ATI has the best value for the price, then I'll buy it. Same goes for nVidia."

You need an appreciation for the fact that both companies have advantages and disadvantages, and in the end, having both of them around is a win-win situation for the consumer. It keeps prices down (if you can call $500 cards "down") and keeps innovation an absolute must for company-survival.

Why do 13 year olds insist on committing their first born child to one company or the other?

PS - I think the MP will have CTF/DM/TDM plus one or two new gametypes, with usage of vehicles.

Nvidia 5900 Pro deos much better in DX8 games untill you introduce pixel shaders and really loses out on DX9 software (form what I'v heard)

In my personall opinion I think the best card to buy now would be the R9800 128mb because of price to performance ratio and the fact it looks like it will do better in DX9 games (unless NV work miracles whith there drivers and "dramatically" improve performance in DX9, like they say there going to :x). What I can't understand though is why people claim the R9800 is faster than the FX5900 in current games, when it is simply not. Well actually I do know, it's because there a bunch of unimformed ATi fanboys who have there heads stuck so far up ATi's ass that the air supply to there already retarded brian can't understand benchmark results.

BTW why the **** are we talking about video cards in a mp thread???

I think the multiplayer will be dm, team dm, maybe a couple of new modes, hopefully with some vehicles included

As for it being better than bf1942, I think bf1942 does a good job of focusing on arcadey, team-oriented vehicle fun. While Hl2 doesn't look like it will be more serious (well, as serious as a game set in an alien-infested future can get) , with more emphasis on your own survival.

And voodoo, your use of the english language is better than some people who have lived here their whole lives, so don't worry about it :afro:

Wow, I've never been quoted for a poll before.
This is a bit... creepy. :O

Basically what I meant by that post is that people will try to take the ideas of Valve, and Half-Life 2 if they are able to. I know games like Doom3 and Stalker are still a ways away, but they can still take ideas from a game and quickly implement it into their own before the said game is released. This makes it seem as if they are the ones to come up with it and that it is actually Valve copying them. Many companies these days restrict information to the general public because of these reasons. Valve has done a great job so far with keeping the game and its developement completely unknown for more than 4.5 years. I figure, if they've done it for that long, why release all the info a few days before release?

Bleh, I dunno. I just took a nap and i'm groggy.
Have a good one.
