For some reason every time I play CSS, pop ups come out and it comes out most of time when the server is changing the map.

I'm only having a pop up issue when I play CSS and I have pop up blocker and have firewall on.

Any ideas?

what kinds of popups are they? IE? messenger?

spybot and ad aware are good programs to get rid of them (Free), I use them myself.

That's spyware. Did you install a new toolbar for IE? Or perhaps you ran an .exe that you mistook for pr0n on Kazaa?

his nothing to do with CSS. The pop-ups may come up while the server is changing the map because the resolution/refresh rate may change in that process, causing the monitor to display other applications running in the background.

I don't even use IE. I use Firefox.

I erased entire IE from my computer, but somehow it always manages to come back as a pop up site.

Sorry you can't erase IE from your operating system, when you'd boot up, it would show an error.

Search your pc with "spybot search and destroy" and "ad-aware", search your pc with antivirus like avast or mcafee norton etc. Get a good firewall like zonealarm from zonelabs, mcafee or norton. If it still occurs you need to track down each spyware program and delete them, or do what I would do - take backups and do a reinstall. Remember to have them all updated to the max :)

Remember, google is god.

I used Xoftspy to erase all spywares and everything. But thing just pops up still whenever I play CSS.

then you havent erased it all have you:upstare:
keep using spyware killers but if you've tried loads and its not working you might want to
a - reformat
b - stop downloading dodgy porn\music\torrents!

I have the same problem.

Everytime the map changes there's a 50/50 chance that a pop-up will come and minimize CS. Even though I use Mozilla and not IE.

But then when I click on CS to maximize it again it never comes back as I just get an Error, and the game crashes and I'd have to re-open CS, re-log onto the server, and cross my fingers that when I connect (happens on connect and map changes) it's not the time the pop-up comes up.

Sometimes it takes 3-4 reloads to finally get in.

I have used Ad-Aware, Spyboy Search and Destroy, and some other free one I found multiple times.

Yet they still pop up, i've learend to deal but it is just a major annoyance if I want to sit and play CS for more than 1 map, and have to reconnect to a popular server 3 or so times every map change until it sticks, assuming there are empty slots.

yes you can, go into add/remove hardware, go into the Windows section, and unclick it. finished.

there must be a file on your computer that executes itself on Windows startup which triggers the popups...thats the very first thing that comes to mind.

another thing to check for is the Windows messaging service...did you disable it? if not, that could be your problem.
lastly, there ere are a few very clever spyware stuff out there which load themselves into memory and while spyware programs may get rid of the original files, the spyware never really is controlled since its in memory.

i suppose the last resort is to format the PC and start fresh.
obviously if you choose to do that, then its a very good idea to only use IE when it is a must and also avoid programs such as Kazaa since they are loaded with nasty spyware and also avoid shady websites too.

I did that. All it really does is remove the icon/name from the program list. It's still there, however. I can get to it anytime.

i forgot to add to my post.
use Trend's House call online scan to get rid of those clever/tricky spyware/trojans which may be loading themselves into memory to avoid being caught by adware and virus programs.

I try have got the same problem, I'm trying that free online scan.

Didn't work. Still get random pop-ups everynow and again...

Run a program called HijackThis and post its log here.

It takes a snapshot of any suspicious operations on your machine, and outputs as text. After you paste the text here, we can all look at it, and maybe someone will spot a virus or something else that shouldnt be running.

I get popups whenever Steam is logged on. Any games. CS:S. DoD:S, though ive yet to have a problem with HL2. They close straight away and havent been happening as frequently (usually only appear when maps are loading), but they automatically shrink to the desktop, and for some reason the source engine takes a while to give you the picture back when you go back into the game..?

Most of my other games go straight in without a problem. With Source games, i sit looking at a black screen with repeating sounds until the picture comes back..weird.

I presume that because when source minimises, it halts the renderer.. and then when you maximise it, it has to re-initialise it.
