PCGames.de has scored a few direct-feed screenshots of Portal 2. Most of the areas depicted in these shots are seen in the E3 game trailer and demonstration videos, but now you can get a better idea of the games visual nature at its current stage in development. And boy does it look hot.

Looks amazing.
That comparison shot is gorgeous.

Shit, these textures have to be a joke... especially for a game set to release in 2011!
Shame, I was hoping for some fresh eyecandy. Well, at least it looks great from the artistic side :)

Nah, it's just poor graphic card thing, game graphics are great.

I must have low standards because, in my opinion, those textures are ok.

I doubt that.

If they're going to take screenshots of a game for promotional purposes, I suspect they'd at least use a decent graphics card.

For some odd reason Valve don't do that, they even use those old beta screenshots on Steam store...

Wow, that looks beautiful. Who said the Source engine doesn't have some life left in it?

Same. Texture quality appears waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay down on the list of things that make a game decent. Nice to have, but, as with all eye candy, if the game is good you forget about the visuals minutes after starting.

Again, I think the textures are fine. Sure they're a bit blurry, but its only some mangled metal and floor tiles. The walls and everything else look very pretty imo.

Well, they apperantly didn't even turn on anti-aliasing(look at them @ full size on the original website), so I suspect them not running on maximal settings.

I'm not saying graphics are the most important feature of a good game(agree with Warbie here), some sharper textures would just be a nice addition to Portal 2's brilliant-looking design.

yeah i dont gt why they didn't turn on anti-aliasing. those jaggies are rel eye sores.

heh you people and yor super pcs complaining of some jaggies

"OMFG the jaggies! omfg unplayable game cuz of so ugly!"

Well the game still has at least 6 or so months left of development. I'm sure theres going to be a lot of optimizations and touch ups made between now and then. It'll look fantastic.

I never play with AA, running at 1920x1200 you barely need it the pixels are so fine. AA really adds a ton of lag for such little payoff, it's not worth it except in older games where I have rendering power to spare.

Doesn't explain the reason why they didn't, seeing as how these are promotional screenshots.

Well, then our eyes apperantly work in a different way, because IMO anti-aliasing adds a lot to the overall image quality. If I need to, I usually even lower a games' other settings to enable more AA.

Once again, I didn't say graphics are the most important part of a game, having nice textures and no jaggies is just a nice addition.

EDIT: sorry for double post

I'm with Vegeta on this one. At 1920x1200 there are rarely many jaggies that I notice while playing. If I have some spare power I might stick it on 2x AA. If I play in a window at a lower resolution I'll turn on AA then.

I wouldn't personally turn down other settings like texture quality, motion blur or whatever to turn up AA. Aliasing is a small problem for me.

I'm guessing the game in its current form is slightly laggy with AA enabled, so they disabled it for the demo.

Lol, the floor light corners are aperture logos. Also, looks like they upped the water effects.

OMFG, they didn't activate the anti-aliasing 4x, and the anisotropic filtering is off too. I'm not gonna buy this game anymore, cause I'm such a whiny bitch.

^^
That's what some of you sound like. Back at my day, we didn't even have video cards....

The screenshots may have been reduced in quality maybe twice from the original screenshots, for the purposes of uploading to the web? Regardless of image quality, those look like a fantastic setting for another round with GLaDOS.

I never liked AA either.

I have high hopes for this game. I have no clue if it will surpass the first Portal, but this game will probably feel awesome playing

You'd be surprised to hear how many people think Unreal Tech Engine 3 is already "outdated" and "Last Gen". For me, it's always been about the gameplay over graphics.

I love me some antialiasing. Aliasing takes a lot away from the image quality, personally. It really, really should be enabled in the promo shots. But it's not a big deal, the gameplay videos are pretty great.

Yeah the jaggies stand out to me too, maybe i'm just used to running hl games with 8x AA.

Is it me, or does the blue running-man icon on the door look out of place?

Nah, I think it's odd suddenly they are there when they weren't in the first. Bad continuity like that kinda irks me.

To all the people complaining about why they didn't use AA, I wouldn't be surprised if they were using shots from the ps3 version.
