Yeah, this could be a stupid idea, as, anyone who joins a forum about Portal, must have liked it alot ;P.

But lots of people seem to dislike certain things about Portal. Ie, some levels, lenght of the over all game, the boss fight, all that stuff. So, either this thread is useless, or some people just wanna point out some faults. . . if any.

I'm gonna give it a ten though =D. GLaDOS rocks my socks XD.

It did exactly what I wanted it to, so I gave it a 10.

4-5

Storyline isn`t developed enough, a big portal facility coming out of nowhere. As if valve was literally forced to add this asset.

Kleiner mentionning it during ep2 felt random and it seems no other character really cared enough to tell us more about "their so-called competition".

Now don`t get me wrong, the game itself is great. Would be 8-9 worthy if it wasn't in the HL univserve.

Black Mesa and Apperature hate each other though, thats why no one would have talked about it. If there is out of sight out of mind, possibly out of speech out of mind.

9, wish there were more advanced maps or whatever.

Perfectly paced, breakthrough technology, subtly creepy atmosphere, fun to play, and don't get me started on how well written the Source engine is. I gave it a 10.

So you've never messed around with its code then :p

I still think there should have been more elements to it's story, more detailed environments (stuff outside the testing facility), some form of human evidence (videos pictures etc.) etc. Other than that, it's a perfect and innovative game.

Who cares about the code when it runs so well? :p That's what non-coders care about.

They never mentioned it before because I think Valve hadn't created Aperture yet by the time HL1 and HL2 were released. Valve came out with the idea of Portal (borrowed from The Narbacular Drop, released in 2005), many years after the original game. So they would have never mentioned it on previous games.

10+ = 11, I thought the story was developed just enough to ensure you had no idea what was going on, but that you knew where you where and what you were doing. The length was disapointing but was still long enough to have fun and introduce Aperture Science into the Hl series. The humour was fantastic with witty comments from GLaDOS, to the random breakdown of speech, this game is a riot.

That's because the idea of them being related was tacked on later in the development cycle. I'm pretty sure of it.

8-9

It's was a really fun puzzle game that took four hours to complete. An 8-9 for that is amazing enough.

but seriusly, who voted 0-1?!

10+ for me though:E! i diddnt mind that it was short, it diddnt feel short to me (maybe because my computer crashed every 30 minits. :p

I suggest we hang, draw and quarter the person who voted 0-1.

10, easily 10... Innovative and immersive story, fun technology. Enough freedom to experiment with the technology and enjoy it independent of the story line (never a feeling of "I can't play with this because I only have x shells." Same feeling I got with the gravity gun.) The off-beat humour which was really well developed.

The overall POLISH of the game was tremendous. Every design element, line of dialogue was well thought out and well done.

7-8
Because it was a great game, cool ideas, just way too short. It took me about 3 hours to finish the game. I did however like the story and the way they still keep us in the dark after "explaining" some stuff. But still, there was not that much explaining.

7-8

Thought it was outstanding. Finally a game that was "different" than everything else out there. I was expecting it to be a simple puzzle game, but when GLaDOS started to get a bit dark and creepy it really turned the game into much more than what I expected.

My only two complaints (which made me rate it a bit lower) :

1) Too short.

2) Too many early "training" levels. It was easy to pick up the concept of the portal gun. It seemed unnecessary to walk us through 1 portal for so long at the start.

Lol, I assure you ALL I gave it the ten, so I'd like to NOT be hung XP

I absolutely LOVED the game. Sure, i was short, but was still fun, and only the right side of my brain is 'thinking with Portals', so I could play it through a few more times.

I read up on the game the same day I made this poll, aparently, it's the best game in the whole Orange box D=. Or atleast "an easy favourite". It got some good (REALLY GOOD) ratings too, as well as some awards I'd never even HEARD of ("best new Character" which was GLaDOS btw).

But it's obvious as to why it got those ratings.

GLaDOS was what really got me. True, "hurrah infite portals" or that one test chamber
whereyou have to like shoot a portal to the lowest platform, fall down the shoot, aim at the next one, and just keep 'falling' up
was amazing. But GLaDOS is what did it for me =].

EDIT; Oh, SO agreed with Mikael Grizzly, seriously, WTF!?!?!

No, but from an end user point of view, it's bug free. That, given how advanced the engine is (physics, graphics, portals, etc.) while maintaining good scalability, is what I'm thinking. Gears of War, Blacksite Area 51, Bioshock, Crysis... if these were as polished and scaleable as Portal, I might not give it this score.

9.7 Even tho i know why it was short and it really was perfect. You can never get enough of this game.

A bit too much running around post-test. I mean, if you make it that far, you know what you're doing. It got a tad repetitive. But a 10, easily.

I gave it a 10. It blew me away. I haven't had that much fun since well since a long time.

well, since the enrichemnt center was TOP SECRET, i doubt that they would go telling there main rivals avbout it, and anyway the plot of portal is more deep than HL could ever hope to be

one of the greatest games i have ever played.
never gets old
constantly blows my mind
amazing game.

Meh, it wasn't THAT great, it was ok the first time but I'm probably not going to install it again for a while.

I gave it a 9 -10 because it came with the OB and I really enjoyed playing it. The end was one of the few times my cold heart has been awakened by wonderment and exstasy.

BUT- if I had bought it for the current standalone price of $19.99 it wouldn't be getting a 10. It'd be getting a 7 or maybe an 8. Maybe lower depending on how swindled I was feeling at paying 10 GBP for 3 hours of play, 1.5 of which were easy as hell.
