Portal speedrun 17:50

Hi guys, I did this speedrun about a month ago and am currently working on a new one but I thought I might just post it because it is the fastest so far. many tricks were used to get maximum speed but new things have bee found that can make this run about 16 minutes or less. Oh, and the video is in two parts because youtube only lets you upload 10 minutes or less of footage :dozey:.

Uhhh, that link you posted is not the same thing...this is a different run and done much faster, in fact I reach chamber 14 around something like 8:20. This is also a run of the whole game not half of it....lol.
 
exactly, it's old and been done.

(me is angry because I just got an infracture for no reason)
 
How does a slow run of half the game mean that a whole run has been done? they are 2 different things.
 
I wouldn't waste your time Kingpin. It's like playing tennis against a brick wall.
 
Sorry. Why couldn't you just tell me that here rather then give me an infracture?

I'm going off the forums for another week. Everyone's against me.

Kingpin - Just finished watching it, that trip up to Glados was pretty epic, I couldn't keep up with it. I recognised the odd few things but you seem to know it off the top of your head. Do you think you could do it with your eyes closed or while sleeping?

Oh and the portal above the furnace to destroy the various cores from Glados is a great idea. Nice production line (or should I say destruction line).
 
Wow, you made the turret hit Glados to make the cores fall down? Heh, that was pretty cool. In fact,too cool. D:<
 
Lol Hectic, to be honest, I like the first half of the run more because there arent many errors at all, in fact its pretty much flawless up until chamber 13. Oh and, I doubt I could do it with my eyes closed but I certainly know the map of the game off by heart up to every turret placement and every orb path :). Overall the run is basically as fast as it will get using that method, wait and see my next one though!
 
walking backwards all the time is not cool or 1337 or anything else, and only kids under 10 would find it remotely impressive, so i dont know what youre trying to achieve/prove by doing it. in fact, its downright irritating to watch. you have done some cool tricks and fast times through the chambers, but every time you walk backwards, i think "backwards again? really? what a try-hard dick". sorry but its the truth.

I think you are reffering to the backwards bunnyhopping, which is a trick that lets you gain high velocities through long corridors or flat surfaces. The fact that you are calling me a try-hard dick for doing it and then complementing some of the fast chamber times is like saying your run is good, but it is shit...:eek:. I dont know exactly what you are trying to say, but what I gathered from it is that you are a very narrow minded person. Next time please make some constructive criticism instead of having a cry about the mere fact that I am trying to get a good time, not an aweful one.
 
Don't mind stewie, or at least try not to. He tends to piss people off around here with his snobbish, condescending remarks.

Anyway, great videos. I remember a similar speed run posted awhile ago. Good to see aiming to beat it. I can't imagine the challenge. It's way beyond me. :p

escape_02 - 1 minute 2 seconds - P:DQ

A bit faster Glados run. Without Fraps running it's possible to get the first 3 cores in before the 4th hits the floor. Kingpin's run looks like a mix of my run and groobo's. Never started a thread (here at hl2.net) when I uploaded it to Youtube earlier this month since it wasn't a whole run. There's a tips video in the description area at Youtube.

OP must be Rob1n from SDA forums I guess? I know you've seen my run so can't understand why you didn't use more of the tricks. That's why I posted it there to begin with because I'm not doing a whole run. I mean, you know someone else is going to use them, so they're going to beat it anyway. There's a good 20 seconds on that map alone, and you only beat groobo's by 15 seconds. Just seems a waste of a run.
 
woah, what happened to the portal at 5:48 in the first video? the portal gets made IN the ground! its only for a split second though. Anyone else see it?

:edit: i saw another one at about 6:49-6:50, where half of the portal is in the wall...

Ah I typed before I got to that part. You meant a standard turret not the special one.
 
beat my run by 2 minutes and 30 seconds.....in other words I just got 15:20, so much for the OP being rob1n, just owned his run. haven't made the compilation yet , i want to fraps it with my new 8800GT so its less laggy. I hope to post it here in the near future.
