I'm not going to get my hopes up, but this date does make sense:

- it hits right in the middle of the huge Christmas shopping spree
- it'll be about a month from gold to ship, so if they want to hit that weekend they need to go gold, like, NOW
- it'll give Valve two weeks after Condition Zero's release to make sure Steam's ready

If we don't hear anything by the end of next week, we can assume that it won't be out until at least February.

I agree with everything, except the ''going GOLD now.'' A game can go GOLD as short as 2 weeks, from release, and ship internationally. Hopefully this is true, which would then mean I don't have to call myself a bafoon...as I had said I would, should Hl2 be released next year.

And the whole February thing; They could keep this under wraps, until two weeks before launch.

The game is coming out in November. Bottom Line. Period. End of discussion. No more to talk about. Thats it. Final. Goodbye.

It would be nice cuz it would go out about the same time as Far Cry, which also look to be an awesome game including awesome graphic, physics, AI and ambience....man it's gonna be a $$$$ holiday...haha:bounce:

Agreed.

You're right, games have gone from gold to ship pretty quick (didn't Diablo II or something go from gold to ship in 8 days or something ridiculous?) I said a month only because that's more or less the standard lead time, because they'll want to give retailers as much advance warning as possible, and they'll want to test Steam as much as they can before they put it up. But absolutely, if they wanted to, they could push it out in two weeks.

I've been wondering myself if they'd do this, and all I can say is that Valve doesn't have a history of doing this. Other companies do. On the other hand, it would be great for PR if out of the blue it goes gold and then two anguished weeks go by before it's out. The word of mouth alone would be intense.

Yeah...
Either way, we're looking at this year. I seriously doubt anything later than Dec. 9th-16th.

well we should wait and see when it goes gold. i will jump out of my skin when it goes gold. if this date is true then the latest we would have to wait to truly find out is nov. 14. thats 2 weeks prior to release which is ample time to ship (atleast to the major markets of the world). i am definitly taking all things like this with a grain of salt. some times a whole bag depending on the thread and source.

btw: in reply to orifices comment about retailers needing to prepare....i seriously doubt they need to prepare anymore than they already have. i have seen signs and stuff in ads already. all they gotta do is throw a couple more signs up and print up to date ads.

You're gonna have to get a picture of that :)

And I love Ghost's optimism, as I'm right there with him, believing without a shadow of a doubt that it'll make it out this year :)

Well the fact of the matter is, the game is coming out this year. No matter what anyone says, there is no way that this game is not coming out this year. I can assure you in every way possible that we will have it before Christmas.

And I agree :) Although a majority of the fanbase disagrees (or so it seems), we'll just have to tell them, once it comes out, that we told them it would happen ;)

yay, NSPIRE wins! Anyhow.. this has kinda gone off-topic, seems have become an agreeance thread :)

This thread is great. I've seen more optimists, here, than all over these forums. Sure, I've seen a couple, but I haven't seen more than two...in a single thread. I'm glad you guys agree with me. If the rest of the community could salavage some optimism, these forums would be in great shape. Anyway; Novemeber is the best month, of this year! YAY!!!

i want it to come out before 2004 badly. its just, vivendis announcement for april of 2004 confused me. has anyone theorized a good explanation for why they vivendi would do this? i mean if i was vivendi, a far off release date would be the last thing id want to announce, this means some people would forget about hl2 for a while and seek other games. so to me vivendi must be acting on something pretty solid that valve told them.

I'm pretty sure that a late November release would work for Valve, since it will allow HL2 to get the vital holiday sales it would otherwise lose to titles such as MP2, CoD, and Halo PC, just to name a few.

It also makes sense in relation to the CZ date, since it gives Valve a good buffer zone to fix any minor problems with Steam, which would ensure that HL2's release goes more smoothly than the last month or two of development did.

I'm also firing out an E-Mail to Gabe to see if he'll say it's gonna happen, although I'm expecting a reply along the lines of "Wait and see"

If Valve announces a date this week for November, I will have spontaneous bowel evacuation.

Seriously, I think it would be a good move to release the game this year.

Valve should give us an anagram of the month in which it will come out, ya know something like 'yam' or 'prial' or what we all want 'ovenberm' (I know 'ovenberm' is not a word but you figure out an anagram for that)

Ha, I doubt you'll get one at all. The only e-mail of mine, he replied to, was on the day when he was scanning the forums...and I was just complimenting them on the job they're doing; his reply - "thanks."
Anyway, we will see. And what we will see, is Hl2 on store shelves, later this year.

Sushi, you should consider editing your signature...before one of the MODs does.

Or Vivendi could be talking out of their asses. They don't have any more idea than we do, and the April 2004 comment was by someone who was really in no position to know. I should also point out that Vivendi declined on several occasions to confirm April 2004, instead pointing us to Valve. As of right now, Valve is saying holidays, and the Thanksgiving weekend is the most opportune window to hit.

I'm optimistic for this year as well. But I wouldn't be that confident, though. :/

C'mon, you know you want to optimistic. It's fun, you're so much happier about the whole...because it's coming out this year! Join us, Alco...you know you want to.

if i could get a picture of me jumping out of my own skin......god i would be rich muahahahahahaha and probably dead :(

LOL

I am optimistic for this year. But I can't say "GOD IT'S OBVIOUSLY COMING OUT THIS YEAR YOU CAN'T SAY OTHERWISE IT'S A FACT."

I'm still counting on November release. :) And if it doesn't, I won't be crushed, either.

Optimisim is what keeps us going around here. That's why we like SuperTrooper so much.

"November, Half-Live 2 in release will be, friendlies :) :) :) :) :) :)"

but see if vivendi really didn't have a clue, wouldn't they go with valves latest date? which would be november? this is what is strange to me

Checked in at the local Gamespot. The guy checked and said the date says around 11th of November.
So I mentioned to him that there is a possible delay. So he rechecks and asks the other clerk at store, and says they have some kind of error on there systems. The earliest possible date that they BELIEVE it will be available is the 2nd of Feb.

Plz verify this with your local Gamestops.

Take their word with a grain of salt

They don't know anything more than we do, but that is enough, because we all know the same truth

* raises hands and looks up and starts with low voice*

~~~NOVEMBER IS THE HOLY RELEASE MONTH~~~~
* picks up his heavily decorated and enchanted crowbar and slams everything in sight *
Well this will be a blow to the optimism, although I myself am optimistic, I think what I have to say should be considered. Vivendi said back in June or July that the September release date would be delayed. valve kept saying Sept 30, until just before they finally said it was delayed. So Vivendi was right, that time. So what if they are right again with April 2004? God I hope not, bu at least it will give me more time to save up for upgrades =)
ive been thinking sorta the same thing cunni.
because as ive said before, valve cares about the community more than vivendi. so they dont want us to freak out. better to be waiting in anticipation, then to blow it off and seek other games. vivendi then somehow doesn't have trouble telling it like it is cause they are the 'realistic' voice in this, while valve is more of the optimist.
but that doesn't totally make sense. cause if i was vivendi, id want people on the edge of their seats thinking hl2 is just around the corner, so they wouldn't stray off to other games and other hype
Well, for me, they have my money no matter when it comes out. But ya I guess they have to worry about the sales to all the people who aren't hardcore Half Life fans like myself. But from what I've seen, too much hype for too long a period of time can be bad marketing for a game. But Half-Life 2 may be different, as I think the name alone markets itself.
/goes back to the corner of the room, huddles up with a crowbar, and rocks back and forth muttering lines from Half Life.........
Huh...somehow; I managed to qoute myself. I don't remember doing that. Anway; GOD IT'S OBVIOUSLY COMING OUT THIS YEAR YOU CAN'T SAY OTHERWISE IT'S A FACT.
But, Vivendi has gone back, on this. They've said, themselves, that the delay is not confirmed.
And somebody in this forum wrote that the Vivendi person who announced the delay was fired. ALthough I highly doubt it because it was the CEO :cheese:
But I'm still positive towards a release this year. Maybe I'm clutching at straws here (I always wanted to say something like this cause I'm a Marillion fan) but it's the only thing I can do. Sure MP2 or COD will be great but I have NEVER anticipated a game this much in my entire life! I'm sure time wil tell why the game still isn't released yet, and we can go on arguing why that was logical or not. I'm actually kinda looking forward at looking back to the past few months where all these crazy things happened. (geez that sounded real dorky).
But I'm sure you understand what I mean. We all know that no matter what, this game is going to be really, really good and a lot of people are going to play it until every inch of their body suffers from RSI. And even if that means that we have to wait a few more months, we'll forget about that quite soon once we're playing and discussing it.
Sorry, I should of posted this e-mail eariler. I too had high hopes for an annoucement but this doesn't really mean anything, it could still be released in Nov.
bogus
Subject: HL2 announcement rumored?
Hiya Gabe, Is it true that there will be an announcement regarding HL2 coming from valve this Friday? http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=13723 is where all the fuss began.
Thanks for your time!
