Possible beginning of Steam rollout today?

It was mentioned somewhere before that they would begin rolling out Half-Life 2 to Steam clients at the descretion of the user.

Has this speculation been batted down, or is it still a possibility?
I also noticed, as did another member, that the Steam capacity has been upped nearly 200mbps, and it appears that 8 "invisible" new content servers have been added.

Hoping for the best! :afro:

How do you know that the content servers have been 'added'? Where can I see this info?

Well.. when the status page was being updated, extra servers were visible briefly, they were then removed.

Simple :)

The new content servers popped up on the Steam status page for a while, but they are now gone.

i have my credit card ready to go if it happens :) just let them do that and id order it so fast my head would spin :)

I never said anything about a delay? I was mearly asking if there was still a possibility of said rollout to begin today, and if not, had the rumor been batted down. Nothing mentioned of a delay man. I apologize if I made it seem that way. If I did it was not on purpose.

I am taking 3 days vacation to get Hl2 out of my system when it hits the shelves or steam

That would be incredibly awesome if the HL2 "preload" started tonight. Unfortunately, even if it did, it probably would be very unstable and/or slow.

good point. so if it does happen. everyone let me get it first. then ill give the ok for all you to try and get it. sound like a plan? aha

We still got 7 days man, plenty of time, even at a snail's pace, for it to be ready by the 30th!

Jesus, they up the bandwidth by 200 megs and you guys have heart attacks. Did it ever occur to you that they are upping the bandwidth because more people are using Steam?

Considering there was only 1,500Mbps to begin with, 200Mbps is quite a substantial increase.

er... 200mps is not much, compared to the amount of demand.

Even still. It's very likely that the bandwidth upgrade is connected to the HL2 preload, but that doesn't mean a preload is going to happen TONIGHT. You people are fanatics.

Didn't they used to have at least 2000Mbps?

Fanatics for drawing a logical, possible conclusion... fascinating...

spitcodfry said they would send the game to your harddrive a week prior to its release if you were going to download it via steam. today has nothing to do with it if it isnt comming out the 30th, and even if it does, it would not require a full week of sending info, its just to lighten the load so the internet doesnt explode when its released

How many extra servers did you see when these "mystery" servers came up...and what did the total capacity # say?

nvidia has one of the biggest servers.
if they turn it off because geforce fx suxx on hl2 it will be delayed:eek:

I'm not entirely sure as to the existance of these "invisible" servers, but many people have cited that those servers were temporarily there when all of the Steam servers had went down earlier today.

People on the official steam forums are asking where 'Severs 16-26' (or some numbers close to that) have gone - apparently they were visible very briefly during the weird 'transition' moment.

HL2 dedicated fileservers? Quite possibly.

Fingers crossed, freaks.

OMG HL2 IS ON STEAM!!!

Now, if that was true I would be happy... but it's not.
I just wanted to see what chaos that picture would cause.

EDIT: Post it in all the HL2 forums...

For all the people talking about missing servers... if you look at the source code for the Steam status page, you'll see the numbering of the servers is all off.
