I believe that there might be a connecton between the Combine Advisors and the G-Man. I think we can all agree at this point that the Combine Advisors are telepathic (if not telekinetic, electrokinetic, pyrokinetic, etc.). Imagine yourself as a Combine Advisor. You are a lumbering, freakishly ugly slug-like creature who has devolved into your current form through no fault but you and your species own ambitions for power. Not something most intelligent species in the multiverse would drool over. You have conquered countless numbers of world and civilizations, but there's always room for more, right? You see this nice little human civilization just one universe away, and the only thing in between you and your future slave race is the border world Xen, where the remnants of a species that got away from you ran to (species being Vortigaunts). You, being a telekinetic being of high renown, can project yourself across space and time. Are you going to project yourself as a lumbering, freakishly ugly slug-like creature? No. You are going to project yourself as a member of the race you hope that you will one day have in your pocket. In this way, you can manipulate the humans into clearing the way for you to unlock the door, so to speak. It is possible that the GMAN is the telepathic representation of a Combine Advisor. It is not neccessarily true that all of the Combine Advisors are working together. ... It is not neccessarily true that there is just one GMAN.

Please discuss this. I would like to hear your thoughts on the matter.

So what was the telepathic representation of a Combine Advisor trying to manipulate Gordon to do in HL2? The combine were already there and seemed to have what they wanted...

Possibly manipulating Gordon to blow the Citadel... In hopes to send The Message?

What for? The Citadel can safely open an interdimensional portal to send a message.

Also, while the theory is interesting, it lacks logic. Why should a Combine Advisor work against his own kin? Why would he blow up a Citadel?

Why would gordon work against *his* own kin? And ruthlessly slaughter so many of them through the span of hl1 and hl2.

That's one of my favourite pet theories. Though I have the Combine advisors being entities similar in power to the GMan, though not the same. I like HL having these awesome superentities such as the GMan and vortigaunts working through pawns like Gordon. In my head the Nihilanth has similar powers as well.

I like the theory but it wouldn't make sense to hurt the combine in HL2.

How exactly is he hurting them in contrast to how he's helping them? :cheese:

What if he is trying to trigger a civil war within the universe? The Combine Empire? It is plausible. A conflict of interests, some miserable synths and Overwatch soldiers dead. It doesnt have to be scrupulous.

The Combine are far too evolved to wage civil war.

But the enslaved races could. :)

It is indeed a possibility.
However whenever there is more than one individual, the possibility for arguments exist.
No matter how evolved you are, i think you cannot get around this.

Sounds good on paper, but like the other guys say, too many inconsistancies.

and i'm going to laugh when Half-Life episode 3 reveals this whole story was just one big Acid trip. . .

Seems like a cool idea, but why would the advisors manipulate Gordon to kick their own arses? Are they like interdimensional S&M freaks?

I still believe that Gman represents some as yet unseen 3rd party, to be revealed in HL3. Hopefully, whatever force he represents will be even more malevolent than the Combine. That would be nice and harsh on humanity, and would make a consistent scale pattern for enemies throughout the series:
Xen < Combine < Gfamily

I like to think of the G-Man as one of the many employees of a corporation that hires people, not telling them what their job is until the only choice is to work for them, and the corp simply erdicates bad businesses and races that have bad businesses(Black Mesa,Race X,Xen,the Combine, ect.)
