Um, if you haven’t beat it yet then WTF you doing in the forums? But anyway…
SPOILERS….

"Until you're where he wants you there's nothing you can do"

Said by Judith before your second face to face with Breen. When I first heard it I suspected she was talking about the good Doctor Breen but it sounds a lot more like she’s talking about the ominous G-Man who has almost pointed out your way though out the game. Judith got insulted when Alyx accused her of betrayal and said that they we're fighting for the same cause. Could the G-man have employed Judith to get close to Breen? She was the only reason Gordon got out of Breen's clutches. It could have been a change of heart or her love for Doctor Vance (about to be transported) but it could have also been more than that.

If this has already been posted I'll delete this immediately and chalk it up to newbie idiocy. But I just beat it for the second time (on HARD! woot) and noticed some interesting stuff.

ive never heard that one before.

its an interesting theory, cant quite see it myself tho. i might do when i give it more thought tho.

Hmm...that is a very interesting quote. I just assumed she was referring to good ol' Dr. Breen. What makes you think she may be talking about the G-man?

It seems to me that you are implying that the Gman employed her to get close to Breen to make sure nothing happened to you (Freeman). This brings up a few questions.

1) Was the whole "betrayal/guilty conscience" all planned? Why would the G-man make her do something like that, where does it fit into his plans (as if anyone really knows what they are)...?

2) If you think about it, it almost seems that Mossman was at the right place at the right time. How would the Gman know that Mossman would be around to help save Gordon from Breen's clutches?

3) Perhaps Mossman was "spying" on Breen for the Gman. It seems that Breen does not know that he exists, or that perhaps they are advesaries. Maybe Gman just wanted the upperhand on Breen.

I like the idea, but we are going to need to get some facts/data to back it up. Since so little is actually known, most of this will be just educated guessing, as is most all theories on the Half-Life saga.

One quote that I found interesting in the G-man's last speech mentioned somethign that involved "free will". And the lackthereof. The "illusion of free will" if you must. I think this can give us just a little better idea behind who or what the Gman is. As we all know, Gordon is basically the G-man's puppet -- he does everything the Gman wants. The Gman, indirectly or directly, is always there to make sure things get done correctly. Gordon, although he may think at the time he is making a decision for himself of his own free will, is in reality making a decision that was either pre-planned or influenced by the Gman.

This gives the assumption that Gman has control over free will itself. The implications of this are yet unknown, but it gives Gman ten times the power he already has.

God, I love Half-Life.

EDIT: Oh, and welcome to the forums. Very good first post. If this has been brought up, you'll get a lot of crap from people saying "dudezzz.tehre iz teh serach function..." but that's mainly for posts like "OMG G_MAN IZ TEH GORDON"

Everything about this series is speculation. Thats why its so amazing. But I think the "illusion free choice" was refering to the first games ending where you can choose to work for him or die.

The main theme of the game is control obviously. Being set in Russia I think, the enslavement of organisms, and of course the Freeman who is himself controlled.

Hmmm nice first post and nice theory!

SPOILERSPOILERSPOILERS

I think we can safely assume that the Gman wanted you to blow up the citadel. Therefore that's "Where he wants you". And you haven't done anything (Ok, apart from starting a rebellion, but you haven't struck a killing blow) until you've blown up the citadel.

Mossman does state that her and Alyx are fighting for the same cause. Which would add up perfectly if she said it to Gordon meaning "We're both working for the Gman" but as she said it to Alyx does this mean simply "We're both working for the good of mankind"? Or is Alyx working for the Gman? Would explain her survival into Aftermath!

Ooooh I want answers!!!

in the universe of half-life you rarely get answers. just more questions.

I brushed this off when I read it just now, but actually, this makes more sense than first meets the eye; it implies that Gordan can do something when he's 'where he wants you'. Combined with what Mossman says later on:-

'We're doing what we could never do alone - we're stopping you' ( my emphasis )

This actually makes a pretty compelling discussion point.

i Just realized something. (kinda off the topic i've started) Now, i'm not religious in any way, and the Half-Life series is based on theories of demensional strings that can be altered/taken advantage of in the case of the combine. But I can't help but notice that Dr. Mossman betrays you and her name is Judith. Seeing as Judus betrays Jesus and sets up Jesus' plan to die for sins or some junk, Mossman betrays you and sets you up to get closer to Breen.

This isn't the first Biblical reference thats been noted. I've heard before somebody talking of the G-Man being Gabriel (an angel of God).

Also Gordon looks kinda like Jesus.
But whatever. Most stories look like Biblical stories anyway.

Anything is biblical if you think about it loosely enough. I'm sure with enough symbolic mumbo jumbo you could compare Harold and Kumar to some biblical story.

As for the quote, while the is a lack of evidence, I generally see the direction you're goin' for Zach, and , I have tio say, I agree with it!

Sorry, typing faster than I think - despite having clearly read your name as "ZachAttack". ;)

Gman = God man?

Kinda makes sense...well he DOES work in mysterious ways!!!

You, on the other hand, don't. :D

I'm not sure whether or not Breen knows about G-man, but what he says about working for the highest bidder is certainly interesting. That's when Judith moves over to the controls to free everyone. It also gets a "No!" from Eli and "Don't listen to him" from Alyx. They definately know more than they want you to. Perhaps Breen was going to disclose the nature of Gman's relationship with Gordan, and that was when Mossman had to blow her cover and shut breen up.

Where he wants you referring to Breen, meaning until Breen has got you in the palm of his hand theres no use struggling, since you dont have a choice...

I think she says what I could never do alone - could someone check this pls? I she does indeed say I, I would take this to mean that she couldnt stop Breen on her own, she needed Gordon's help.
If you listen to all of the Breen dialogue in his office, you can see that all Mossman cares about is Vance. As soon as Breen puts forward the idea that Vance is no longer required as he wont tell the Rebellion to stop, Mossman turns on him.

Its pretty obvious Breen knows about Gman, and its pretty obvious the Gman is some kind of agent provocateur: putting Gordon's servies out to tender.

"Ive received some interesting offers for your employment" at the end of the game for example.

Also Breen:
"Has shown himself to be a willing pawn to those who control him"

Could be talking about Kleiner/Vance - Gordons mentors, or about Gman...

Also Gordon looks kinda like Jesus.
We don't know what Jesus looked like ;)

As for the quote, I just assumed it was Mossman saying that there was nothing he could do until Breen had him where he wanted him. :-\

has anyone thought that the G-man is a Physical Metaphor for Gabe Newell, the creator of half life?

i mean think about it, the G-Man, is Taking you through the game, checking on you, telling you that you have the illusion of free will, but realy your just his puppet running through his maze of Tasks he set out for you.

this is Exactly What gabe Newell has done to ALL of us, and since gordon doesnt talk as hes supposed to Be us, and We are supposed to be him. then its basically just a Whole metaphor for Saying.

hi, im gab newell. you are playing my game, in my game you will fight through a series of situations and puzzles, and *spoiler*, complete the game by destroying the citadel.

i know this theory isnt Colourfull, or as aexciting as a Matrix-esque Philisophical reasoning.

but it kind makes sense since everything the G-man is making you do, is infact what Gabe is making you do since it is hi game from his brain.

so the G-man could be the physical incarnation of Gabe's Brain or personality type deal.

I hope someone can understand what i wrote cos im not the best at english lol.

i dont think gabe's ego is as big as his waist size tbh. he seems like a really humble kinda guy considerin all he's achieved.

I remember hearing something in the Source Sounds.GFC that indicated Breen knew about the G-man
EDIT:BTW, it is I am doing what I could never do alone, or whatever it was, but it was I

More fuel for Zach fire:

I was farting around yesterday in Nova Prospekt, and listened to Breen's speech, but a little more carefully this time. He said: "I have reason to believe that Gordon Freeman was in a state that precluded further development of his skills." Or something like that. :naughty:

What was it people were calling it? Homeostasis? I dunno. That thing people talk about when G-Man "freezes" you (I guess) between Half Life 1 and 2.

yeah seems like the breen meister knew you were in stasis, so he had sec with stiffler

He seemed surprised when you teleport in and out the first time but he could have been afraid because he knew you were contracted out against him.

Who can say really? Thats why the game is awesome.

Its never just what it obviously could be.

Wait a second. What if Gman hired Judith to get close to Breen and then since GM knows the location of the blackmasav2 he gives it up to Breen which stops you from getting back to your lab coat and since Eli gets captured gives you the reason to get to Breen/get in his way.

Has that been mentioned before? Read the first part to get the first Judith GM connection i had.

i gotta stop smokin weed and playing this game.
