Okay, I agree and know that HL2 will definetely not get banned here in australia.... however the whole overwhelming issue of australia's oflc is important as lately it is becoming a media hype load of old politicians postulating about games when they haven't even played/seen/read or hear of the game and they still start campaigning to ban it.....think manhunt....

The oflc is in need of reform or changing their system..... games should not be banned based on their content....just restricted to certain groups of people (i.e. age ratings..) we shold have the choice to play/see/do whatever we want, as long as it is within the laws of our community. Furthermore Politicians should be thoroughly splatter with rotting eggs whenever they decide to get off their lazy arses...and start campaigning that a game is "ilmoral" and horrible, disgusting, not right, should be banned, blah balh blah...as most of them never actually see/read/play/etc etc etc the game in question.......it is infuriating!!!!! Why do people want to have an opinion about something that they know absolutely nothing about!!!!..... anyway i'll be quiet now.....

:sniper: ARGH!!! DIE ----- (bullets) ------- :dork:

Howard and George Bush both look like chimpanzees. It's why they get along with each other so well.

Sure it'll be banned, and Christmas here is on the first of April.
heh..yah! i forgot about that new daylight saving christmas in april thingy...yah now i have 5 months to sort out prssies for people.....

They've already banned Manhunt, though i believe that game deserves to rot in hell due to the incredible violence. GTA: SA will most definately get banned, or heavily cut down... that I don't like.

The chances of HL2 being banned are very minimal; Doom 3 was allowed, and that is a very gruesome game.

It won't be banned, I'm not in the least worried about that. I bought over steam anyway.

The ratings rubbish is a complete joke, though. There are so many games targeted at adults, yet no rating to accomodate those games. If it's not deemed suitable for kids, adults can't buy it. It's absurd. Anyone can walk into their local video store, browse R rated and pornographic movies, and (if over 18) walk out with them... the same should be true for games. I am whole heartedly against censorship... if it's too violent or sexual for our feeble minds, WARN US AS SUCH WITH A RATING, slap an age restriction on it if need be, and let us make up our minds. We're not [all] morons.

Hahahaha yeah, how do they suppose they'll ban it over steam? They won't be able to track credit-card transactions because that would be illegal. I think Steam just may be Australia's solution to aquiring banned games.

But seriously, i have NFI who put that retard in-charge to decide that adults DON'T play games. ffs, i'm 18, and i know people up to 45 years old that play games and here we have a crappy law that needs to be abolished.

^^^.....Yah, someone else has sense......i agree... lets protest about gta:sa..... even though i don't really care about the game.... i care about the principal......

Even if it is banned, it won't affect Steam sales.

Why do this to me... WHY!!!

I don't believe the game will be banned but why scare me like this? Are they trying to kill me?

I'm an Aussie with out boardband so that means i'm only able to buy from the stores. If through some retarted chain of events the game was banned I will... I... I don't know what i'll do, guess if it came down to it I would have to get it sent here from over seas. But I don't want to have to do that.

Ah what am I saying, It's not going to be banned.

Reading that just gave me a flashback to this little incident...

Nothing frustrates me more than ignorant people blaming computer games for the problems in society. I remember reading about a kid who hit another kid on the head with a hammer... the entire article went on about computer games with similar acts of violence, and the influence they had on this poor child, only once managing to briefly gloss over the minor detail that THE KID ENACTING THE VIOLENCE WAS TRYING TO GET BACK STOLEN DRUG MONEY, or something to that effect. This was one messed up kid, but of course, the parents had nothing to do with that, it was all because of computer games.

if hl 2 getting banned here over holland then i'm 100% sure
that i'm gone imigrate to usa

There have been multiple games banned in the past (LSL and Manhunt are two recent examples)

I saw Manhunt on sale the other day in my local Harvey Norman (Aus computer game outlet) so it is definetely not banned here my good man.

if it is banned from being sold, then valve will release a toned down version of the same game in order to make it legal. They won't deny their customers the product.

But they'd be denying them a GOOD product.

Remember the German version of HL? Shooting scientists or security guards made them sit down on the ground and shake their head before fading out. The soldiers were replaced with robots. And there was no blood. Instrad, there was this supposed oil shit.

yes...theres a way around it, its called steam and / or buying it from another country!

unfair tbh. My cousin lives in tasmania and hes looing forward to this...me thinks ill ave to mail a retail copy to him!

Relax, it isn't getting banned.
Its all Happy Joy down here. We will be playing the same with everyone else.

It wont get banned. Just because its R18+ in one place doesnt mean it cant be MA15+ in another. Far Cry and Doom were graphic enough, HL2 doesnt really seem much more violent or gory. Only games like Manhunt etc. get banned here. It would suck if it is though.

Well at least us Australians can get it on Steam. Doesn't change anything. lol.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. Steam sale require you to enter credit card details, including a billing address.

.. no way.

wait, i highly doubt they will ban this, and let manhunt, doom3 and others go.

Half Life : Blue Shift, was released in Australia only two weeks before the shooting murder of security guard and father-of-seven Steven Rogers.

so, because someone dies, it is the fault of a game because it was releaed close to the date. did the mention anything about the killer ? no, they said nothing. that's ridiculous.

Well, Herald Sun is some smalltown newspaper, so it may be noticed on a larger scale but I doubt it'll be banned.

If it is banned, I guess I'll get my money from EB and go buy Gold off Steam.

Funniest thing about the security guard shooting (argh, that sounds awful) was that the eventual perpertrator was found to be a pro-life hermit who lived with no electricity. Did they retract the statement and apologise for being sensationalist idiots? No.

Scapegoatism isn't big and it isn't clever. Of course, ban something, deny the public something, and they'll want it even more. Look at Manhunt's sales over Ebay etc. following that hammer/knife death fiasco...

If it does get banned, they'll just buy it from NZ :p. Doubt it will be banned.

Australia are looking at banning more games as well.
Most notably, they recently banned 'Manhunt' (which was a stinking pile of poo anyway, IMO).

Yes, not that it will be banned, but steam would circumvent a banning (legally too, I think)
