For the first post about this mod in thie 'Modification News' section I want to show you the mod's story, and soem concept art images.

Here is the story:

Year 2019, planet Earth.
Ten years ago a power struggle took place on a multinational front divided and determined for one world government. It led to the largest world wide war in history. They fought with such force and weapons of mass destruction, that the planet is now almost totally uninhabitable. The ending blow initiated by the American coalition making a MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) decision out of desperation, gave orders to launch nuclear weapons on targets in countries all over the world. This resulted in retaliation of equal destruction and devastation.

The planet.... is now a horrific nightmare. Mankind's desire for power and control over others has resulted in this state and it's a consequence of the war.

All of life though, had not been destroyed. There existed small cities in large underground vaults where they had been safe from being exposed to the harmful radiation. But, these vaults which had remained closed for years had now been opened. What the remaining saw, was like nothing they had ever seen before. What were once cities marveled in, had been obliterated to nothing more than piles of rubble and waste.

As everything had been destroyed it was now up to the remaining to start rebuilding and planting seeds for future generations to come. Communities that existed while underground started banning together in a rebuilding process that would take many years. As the rebuilding process progressed, leaders of several different communities decided to create a new form of government. An idea scary to most as government was their downfall before the war and ultimately led to the break down of humanity as they knew it. But the leaders pushed on and triumphed in their pursuit of government formation.

Twenty years later......

The systematic arrangement for living above ground is now in place and everything had been going good as families and businesses prosper. But as with power before the war, it has now corrupted the once community leaders, now government officials and corporation CEO's.

The new government has reconstituted satellites in space and wish to implement a chipping process of newborn babies so that they may be tracked and monitored. The government claims the practice of chipping them would only be a safety precaution, so that if they were ever to get lost or abducted, they would easily be found. The notion and movement of this installation by the government outraged society for the belief it's an invasion of privacy and a method of control. As lawmakers pushed for this highly illegitimate law, many remained skeptical and forcefully opposed it.

The news of the newborn chip implants traveled throughout the world, opposition grew, grew so large and strong it became militant in it's stance. As the world banned together against the governments intent, it became evident to world leaders that they were up shit creek without a paddle. The government initiated marshall law and it quickly escalated, escalated into mass riots and all out war between civilians and the military.

And this is were we are now....

Hmmm cyberpunk. This will have to work hard to get away from the cliche of it's setting.

I don't like the stereotyped characters tbh. Let's move away from fat biker dudes, bandits with 'tasches and women in short skirts and thickly muscled men. It's a bit yawnerific.

But kudos for actually bothering to include women :)

The backstory has a few spelling errors. Might want to correct them, but it isn't badly written as such, it's just cyberpunk mods in general seem to be a tad cliche.

Yeah, the concept art is nicely done, but the idea is all too cliche and many other mods will and are doing things far too similar :(

Wow, those concept art pics look Incredible!

It's nice to see that the Village People are preserved in the post-apocolyptic future...

Hahahahahahh! Man, that's the funniest thing of the day.

Anyways, your story is pretty good, even though it does seem a bit cliché. Concept art is fantastic, though.

Yummy art, but the storyline seems to be a mish-mashy hybrid of Fallout and 1984. Sorry.

As always, I disagree with the hl2.net crew and think post-apoc/cyberpunk settings still have a lot of areas yet to be explored. I give the last ten years of anime as an example of what you can do just by adding a new philosophy.

Concept art is great.

Story seems a little similar to Fallout and Neoshock (bastard! :p), and if its still up for change I suggest you make it less serious about mankind's nature and more realistic.

I'm a bit wary about blending the cyberpunk setting with post-apoc setting. Both of them are unique enough that I think blending the two would be a bad idea. Either you have vast streches of wastelands and humans struggling to survive, OR you have giant cities controlled by corrupt corporations. If you *really* want both, then go with cyberpunk and come up with a short explaination as for why most of the world is barren wasteland. Industrial polution, nuclear/chemical weapons are decent explainations. Just don't make world war III very important in the story line. my two cents.

1) Twenty years to rebuild from "nothing more than piles of rubble" to corporations and satellites?
2) What happened to nuclear winter?
3) What about the radiation? The half-life of Strontium-90 is 28 years and it lodges in bone tissue, causing leukemia and other deadly conditions... and that's not even the longest half-life of the radioactive byproducts of nuclear/atomic explosions (it's just one that I know right off-hand).
4) There seems to be too much information about the war and what happened before the underground cities were reopened. Weren't they completely blocked off from the outside world? How did they get this information?

If this is a singleplayer mod I would start it off with the period before people started coming out of the underground cities being a very mysterious time. No one knows exactly what happened or when it happened... but they do know that whatever it was caused the near-total annihilation of the human race. Then information could be revealed to the player in various ways throughout the story. If it is a multiplayer mod the story won't really matter very much except to explain the current state of the world.
