Gordon Freemans rampage and the subsequent uprising in and around City 17 left thousands of humans, overwatch, and synths dead and wounded. The city is in ruins, the Citadel completely destroyed. Many Advisers may be dead or missing in action, further compounding the damage the Combine have sustained. There is no order, no chain of command with the Overwatch, and gods only know what remains of the former CP. So what do you think it's like around the ruins of City 17? This is not about Episode 2 or even 3, but simply input about things away from the storyline.

The view of the M:
1) Civil Protection Forces: We may see these guys in many different places. There will undoubtedly be a few with Combine groups, in remaining outposts and the like. Many may be wandering in the forest, without a strong guiding force, awaiting Combine return. Many others may have discarded the uniform and attempted to blend in with resistance forces.

2) Overwatch: They took many many casualties from the fighting but are still very dangerous. They've undoubtedly retained control on outposts not assaulted by Freeman or rebel forces, and may have considerable resources at their disposal. Being brainwashed, these groups are likely still following the orders they where last given -- seek and destroy all resistance forces.

3) Necrotics: While many where destroyed in the explosion of the Citadel, the outer, non-destroyed regions where likely greater havens to them than the densely populated inner city. They're likely milling about what remains of the city. Some may have been driven into the countryside, where there are likely to be others already "living" -- the unfortunate Combine and resistance members that have fallen to headcrab shells and wild headcrabs.

5) Synths: I've no clue how they eat, or how they're "ordered around", so I really can't spectate how well a "free" synth would do in the greater scheme of things. The Overwatch has likely still got tight control over them though, so it might be a non-issue. I am wondering what happened to the dropships (which may or may not have had crew) that made it out of the city before the explosion.

6) Mechanicals: I do wonder what happened to the scanners and manhacks that weren't destroyed in the city or by resistance. The manhacks are probably just gone, but I do wonder if anyone is receiving the scanner data anymore.

Well, the city is probably a blubbering ruin at this point.

I assume stragglers would attempt to regroup. I wonder how Overwatch communicate with synths... radio? Be interesting to see an Overwatch dude gesture at a Strider to blow shit up.

I suppose uncrewed dropships would just fly around, looking for Overwatch remnants until they ran out of fuel.

Perhaps the remnants of the command structure would have made a C&C outpost somewhere in the jungle. From what little screenies we see, the Combine seem busy protecting the Advisors.

I wonder if some of the CPs are joining with the resistance.
I mean theyre going to die if they work for the combine anyway. So might as well help you friends you beat up

No doubt radiation riddled and plagued with dangerous particles drifting around...I doubt it's a place people want to be kicking about in.

Cp's joining the resistance would be an excellent backstory in my opinion, as I'm sure that some Resistance members wouldn't tolerate it at all. Then again, the CP's use the uniforms for protection and the little armor they have will be useful.

I imagine that everyone's just trying to get the hell away from C17.

The rebels are already wearing CP-uniforms.

Especially Barney. How long has it been since he took that suit off? Must be getting a bit sweaty in there.

Eh, I think Combine has somehow gotten CP's not to join resistance. Because, why would they make such risk with giving basic people just guns and uniforms, as they know they are not real happy of the new lifestyle Combine has given.

Zombies might thrive in this area (remember the pool of radioactive waste below the street surface in Anticitizen One).

I think that kind of toxic is a whee bit different to the contents of a pulsating ball of Dark Energy ^_^

1. They might, since now they're families are either dead or scattered, there isn't anything for them to work towards. There's no "better food" or "living conditions" to be had now. So they might either join the rebels or remain cp's and tail around behind the overwatch forces.

2. Taken control of any outpost that was NOT assaulted by Freeman...those lucky bastards...

3. Oo. Those things can't be so numerous anymore. IF there are any zombies left in the ruins, theres nothing to eat. And without foodd, the headcrab dies along with the host.

And anybody else, who is not dead, burnt, eviscerated, headcrabbed, shot, combine-ball'd, skewered by a strider or anything else, move in groups.
Resistance and Overwatch alike. o theres really no chance for any headcrabs to hump anybodys head.

And where the hell did the overwatch suddenly take out the heavy artillery?(headcrab-canister launchers)

4.They don't eat, they don't sleep, they don't do anything besides relentleslly hunting down Resistance members. And they somehow get they're commands from the advisors i think. OR they already knew they're objectives.

5. All the baddies, that got the data, were in the citadel.
And assuming the citadel was the combines power source, the scanners will just deactivate.

Well, you don't really know what effect Dark Energy has on humans, it could be possible to live in that atmosphere, if you like a third arm or leg that is :P

Yeah we do.

They disintegrate.

They fizzle and shizzle and then disintergrate
