I am genuinely amused now. I never expected to find a pop culture refence like that from a thread like this. Here we can see why suprise factor is such an essential part of making one feel amused. But more importantly, the joke was delivered in such a subtle manner that it could've gone completely unnoticed and thus it didn't feel forced or pretentious in anyway. It worked perfectly within the context.
