They are; kilobits (kb) and kilobytes (kB). One byte is 8 bits. So 1 kB/s is 8 times faster than 1 kb/s.


edit - weird, it seems that the image looks different per pc. At school like 30 minutes ago I saw the image of the last 3 guys in kb/s, now at home they are in kB/s.

Yep. This is the case. Somebody showed me theirs, and it was showing completely in mb/s when they were seeing it as kb/s

Well I got my FIOS installed today. Speed tests are varying wildly depending on which locations I pick. Some places have me clocking at a download speed as loe as 7000Kbps, some as high as 15500Kbps. For uploads its the same, some as low as 800Kbps, some as high as 1400Kbps.

None so far seem to be letting me reach my full 2000kbps line capacity.

Still faster than I was on my DSL!


Since getting it, it also relocated my position as shown on the speedtest map. I'm now near kansas city on there, when before I was at my actual location just north of dallas.

EDIT: Holy hell! Before with my DSL I could only get a max download on websites of 180kbs... now i'm getting 1.75MB a second. THIS IS INSANE. That's like 9 times faster than before.

The latency is a whole hell of a lot lower compared to the other recommended server, in Latvia. That one was close to 600 ms, oh my.

I'm on 4 Mbit/s ADSL, and it's always been slightly more than that. (In the neighborhood of 4.15-4.2 Mbit/s.) I can upgrade to a maximum of 24 Mbit/s,
(which is neat considering where I live) but I can't be bothered. This is plenty fast for me. It's 16 times faster than my last connection.

1900kilabytes per second seems to be the maximum for me... which is a good thing, since it proves that I can run my download speed as high as my net is rated for in some places, 15megabits per second. The download doesn't seem to reach its FULL potential, but on the fastest sites its only about 200kilobits slower than it should be as rated at 2megabits per second.

That's insane... Atlanta Georgia is still a good place to test though, even for me.

What kind of speed are you rated at anyways? What is it classified as? Cable? How the hell do you get such speeds anyways?

At least my upload speed beats yours. My max upload speed is 1500kb/s


I get closer speeds there to my maximum(and in the case of download, more) there, than I do here in dallas!!
