On the contrary, I fullly agree with CGW's 0-star review of Postal 2. "Romp through an infected colon" was an apt phrase from it. Honestly, killing random people? At least play a game with some pretense of goodness, like killing random Nazis . . .

it's games like P2 that make the media attack games whenever someone dies.

The zero star rating simply shows that CGW is not beyond bias.

They forget that they are not there to judge the premise of the game, simply how well it was, ahem, executed.

Comic books went though the same self censorship crap fifty years ago when the "Comic Book Code" was created. It began the general decline of the art until its revival within the last ten to fifteen years when many publishers began to ignore it.

I really have no use for reviewers who do not judge a game on its technical merits. CGW will never get my money.

Pendragon just got his http://www.mavav.org/ membership in the mail, so don't mind him.

He's a closet-Postal2-player.

j/k m8

:cheese:

Any game where i can kick around Gary Coleman's ragdolled body around after i set it on fire gets The Bastard Loud Magic Seal of Approval.

Kicking around Gary Coleman isn't the worst part--the worst is:
-Pissing on corpses
-Rascist, sexist, homophobic, generally offensive
-stereotypes abound
-Random violence for no reason

then don't play the damn game.

I can see your point about bias, and in most cases I would agree with you, but I don't think that a) that this a case of bias, only one of moral decency, and b) that it compares to the Comics Code debacle. The CC censored things that should not have been censored and were only mildly inappropriate.

The Comic Book Code is an example of MORAL standareds and bias being superimposed upon a artform when they should not be. Similarly so with CGW review.

Postal 2 glorifies the random slaughter of people

No it dosent, it simply allows for it. Its entierly possible to go though the game without hurting a single living thing.

If just so happens that if you decide that a particular passerby needs thier brains evacuated from thier head, you can do that. Should thier be a cop around, you will soon find them filling you with an equal ammout of lead, as will other passersby who happen to be packing.

In addition, people who see you kill will generally run to cops, who will then give chase.

You can do as you please, but there will be conciquences.

and does so with a viciously racist, sexist, homophobic, and generally offensive air.

This is a matter of personal taist. Some poeple find its subject matter distaistful or beleive it speaks against a particular race for such-and-such a reason. However, it is entierly possilbe that any offense a person takes is due to thier misinterperitation of the situation, and not the situation itself.

Slamming a game that does these things without focusing on gameplay merits (which, in point of fact, there were none of) is not censoring or being biased,

It is almost a dictionary definition of being biased. Reducing a score that is supposed to be based on technical merits becuae of factors other than technical merits.

I find none of the things mentioned to be really that offensive because many are put in thier for shock value, that is, its blatantly obvious you were SUPPOSED to be offended. I look at them and see a childish game the developers are playing with people who are likely to be easaly offended.

CGW putting it down on moral or offensive grounds is not reviewing the GAME, but reviewing the subject matter. These two things are eniterly seperate.

The best thing for them to do is to give it a score based on the game but include in the written review that many people will find the subject matter offensieve etc etc.

It is straying away from its job and treading on grounds best left to the player.

If its a technically good game, its the reviewers job to give it a good scrore.

If the subject matter is offenseive, its the players job not to buy it.
