Dear Mr Newell,[br]I am writing to you in order to express my utter disgust and indignation that Postal III is set to be released on the Source engine on PC and Xbox360. In case you didn't know, the 'game', which will include motion-captured performances by a wide array of celebrities, is the latest in a series which has so far delivered most disgusting, depraved, murderous, brutal and shocking torrent of filth, smut and violence that I have ever experienced. Indeed, Andrew Belkin, one of the perpetrators of this vile crime against decency, has stated that "POSTAL III will be the sickest and craziest game ever!"[br]You may read more on the matter here. Quite how you can justify allowing these psychopaths to use your eminently respectable 3D engine to further corrupt the minds of our children, I have no idea. I hope you are proud of yourself.[br]Sincerely, J. P. Tadfield, Chairman of Parents Against Postal[br]PS: When will the game be released?

That was unexpected. ;D
I've played Postal 2, and I thought it was pretty funny. Obviously I have horrible taste.
I remeber the expansion pack with the awesome dismebering feature!
Good times.
Though it got kinda old just running around killing people after a while.
From what I've heard Postal 3 is going to be a bit "deeper", and offer more choices.

After playing SMOD and Dark Messiah I have witnessed the awesome violence and mayhem Source is capable of.
I hope Running With Scissors take advantage of this!

this just confirms my fears , valve will let any crap use the source engine :(

Wohoo for the latest, high quality, 3D simulator... for peeing on random people ! :D

Oh man... I thought it's Prima Aprilis today! :O

Awww, I love halflife2.net, where the news is always made more fun :)

im sorry, but any game that lets you pee on people is gold

From what I can tell those guys have merely purchased a license - it's not as if VALVE are planning on digital distribution through steam or anything.

I don't see this as a problem at all - if people are concerned about their kids playing such games, then they really need to monitor (and censor) the kind of content their kids are exposed to.

Whacking the blame on VALVe for a business decision? Not fair - don't attack the company who produced the engine that a game you don't like uses. I suppose the next logical step would be to attack the language that the engine was written in, for the game that you don't like uses.

Any game that lets you chop off heads, set them on fire, kick them into a crowd of people causing mass combustion and then let's you piss out the resulting burning corpses is gold.

Like all legally-created media, it totally has the right to exist.

That doesn't make you any less of a retard if you buy it though. :O

hehe i remember when lotsa people use to slam LUA

anyways, i looked up postal 2 scores, ign was like a 4.6, gs a 5.2. its pretty bad but I honestly think its a good decision. what better game to use asshole physics then postal, and what better engine to get asshole physics then source.

great marriage imo.

doesnt look that good, would be fun to play when youre wrecked... but B movies are also fun to watch.

-dodo

Let's see how JT reacts when he gets his face peed on.

I bet he'll sue Valve and whatever shit developer's making the game,

I agree with this letter. Postal is really stupid freaky game.

Indeed, Postal 2 was seriously retarded... and pretty badly executed at that...

I mean people ask why the gaming industry is not always taken very seriously...

finally, a third postal! and on source! not that is good news ;)

I hope I'm really not the only person awaiting this game with open arms! I loved Postal 2. It had a nastalgic gold to me like Duke Nukem 3D. I mean, people mostly remember the stippers about this game. For me, Postal 2 is a giant catch on fire and piss on yourself to put OUT said fire dream. I don't care if it had a shitty story, it was mad fun to be an asshole to people in a video game. Better than doing in real life IMHO...
And PS, was the news post being sarcastic all the way through, because the last line made me think so..hence why I apporved the message :p

So, from what I've heard, the whole premise is to run around killing, raping, and peeing on people. If that's the case, I think I'm gonna pass.

Correct me if I'm wrong... but wasn't that letter supposed to be a joke? I mean read the last line of the letter:

I've been reading the news from this site forever (have it on RSS feed :p) and I finally decided to sign up for an account.

I actually enjoyed Postal 2, it is one of the few games that kept me hooked (in a retarded way). It was one of the funniest games that I have ever played, next to Conkers Bad Fur Day. I can't wait for more funny stuff in the next one.

I sort of liked postal 2, wont buy postal3 unless it gets a really high rating. Im just happy because this puts more money in valves pocket, meaning a bigger budget episode 3! :)

Postal 3, time for more brain pissin!

and yes source! my fav engine

Oh hahaha I'm usually pretty good at picking up on sarcasm...didn't at all on that one - pretty well done :p

Postal 2 is awsome and with all kinds of mods its just kick ass.
Can wait for Postal 3.
Setting innocent people on fire, beheading, dismembering or cutting them in half is just hilarious.

Yey!
Postal 2 was pretty shait in many ways... but I still enjoyed it. Less bugs and more gore & guns, yes please! I wonder if running for president is still in plans. And more celebs? I pray Adam Sandler will be included. I'd whack his head off in a second with my rusty showel and unload my shotgun into his lungs just to be on safe side.

2008+delays? ...sure is looooong wait.

I wonder if the good ol' silencer will make a return....boomsticks + cat ass = WIN!

Yahoo! Postal 3 on Source! Any game that will actually get banned in more than ten countries is A-OK by me!

wat up guys!

Yahoo! Postal 3 on Source! Any game that will actually get banned in more than ten countries is A-OK by me!

HAH.....13 countries to be exact!

Wat up guys, MikeJ from RWS here to say wat up! halflife2.net is a fave site of mine and im happy we could finally make some news on here! Loved the news post Sulkdodds, keepin me laughin! BTW, whomever posted above that our game is a RAPE simulator...incorrect. THERE IS NO RAPE OR SEX IN OUR GAME! We just try to make a funny game that has some violence! We make games that we like to play....plain and simple!

Valve is not responsible for what other designers do with their game engine. If someone wants to licesne their engine and is willing to pay for it, that is what is pertinent to them.

That's like being disgusted at Panasonic or Sony for selling a camera/film to a movie production company that will make controversial movies, or a company selling music equipment to Eminem.

The source engine is a tool, and that is what was sold. If valve sold their game engine to terrorirists who intended to use it to train Al Quaida forces to better attack the USA, or to something that supported child labor, etc. then this would be a pertinent issue. You cannot take the connection as far as saying that valve is playing part in corrupting children. This responsibility falls on the PARENTS, they are the ones who should be monitoring what their children play. Next, the ESRB, which exists to help inform parents. And finally, you could trace this to the developers of Postal... but that is going a bit far. Afterall, we live in a country with free speech, and whether or not you like what is being said is irrelevant, the fact is we have freedom; we also have freedom from having to hear/see the things we don't like, which means (1) don't play the game and (2) don't allow your children to play the game.

To clarify my position, I would never play the game or allow my children to play it. I do not like the content at all. But I do not think that means it should be banned.

Anyway, the argument here is based on the morality of producing a game containing controversial content. This is not valve's business, and I suppose you can be dissapointed in valve if you want, but it is not really justified anymore than being dissapointed in any other company for selling tools that help artists create controversial content (video/film equipment, sound equipment, etc.). Afterall, the source engine is just "equipment" - digital software tools. What an artist or game developer does with that is their responsibility.
