Ok well I want to pre-order the game from here

But at the bottom it says players =1.
Is this a misunderstanding ?
Or are there different versions to buy ?
And will a boxed set be released on the same day as the normal version, and whats in the boxed set ??

I think the single player only version idea has been scrapped. Now it's only normal version or collector/special edition.

I believe they changed the packs' so that there is only a standard (multi-single) and a collectors edition.

Wrong. There is no longer a singleplayer-only version. Whatever he preorders, it will have singleplayer and multiplayer.

Best guess is you get the extra source conversions but it's not been officialy announced. It'll have to be something software based though as CE will be available over steam.

Source is the game engine that HL2 uses. In addition counterstrike is being re-done using the source engine, as is HL1 - which i think is the screenshot you saw.

Yep, Source is the engine that powers HL2 and CS:S.

They are going to convert all the old games like HL, OP4 and BS into Source.

I'm pretty sure they will only be releasing one version of HL2 on Steam, a version that includes Singleplayer, Multiplayer, and no additional bonuses. CE is most likely something you have to go to the store for. Check this out for more info on the subject, perhaps ignoring the reference to the Single Player version, as people say it no longer exists.

Picture Quality? As in how good the graphics are? The Steam version will be identical to the boxed version, less the box and a malleable manual.

in the valve info thread, it is specifically stated that the collector's edition will also be available on steam because it will have additional playable content. whether or not the other extras are somehow offered through steam is anyone's guess.

Some of the information posted in this thread directly contradicts some of the information given on this site: HL2 packages.

Some retailers are saying "Multiplayer will be included" (Amazon)
and some are saying "Players: 1"
(Play).

If there is more than one retail package available I'd have expected to see retailers offering more than one, but the sites I've checked only have one package available.

Yeah, it's out of date. There's only collector's edition and normal editions now. They scrapped the SP only idea once Sierra went under.
