Pre-Purchase Left 4 Dead 2 and get Bill's hat for Team Fortress 2

Because Bill's Hat was never supposed to persuade people to buy L4D2 who wouldn't anyway (although some TF2 obsessives have bought L4D2 just for the hat).

Here is, what I think, Bill's Hat was trying to do:
*Get fans of L4D to take a closer look at TF2.
*Get fans of TF2 to take a closer look at L4D.
*Generate news at gaming sites (free advertising).
*Try out a form of non-intrusive in-game advertising (an alternative to the Valve-ads in CS1.6).
*Allow the TF2 team try out a new way of giving out hats.
*Get people to pre-order now instead of buying later.
*Increases inter-game communtiy bonding (eg, "You play L4D2? Hit me up on Steam and we'll play a game).
*Let people have fun.

Surely it would have made more sense to give out something based on L4D2 by that logic. Or alternatively just give everyone who owns TF2 and L4D1 the hat.

I mean I can't afford to buy games at full price as I'm a student, I'm playing on a four year old laptop that I was given which barely handles most things, and as such because I can't buy at full price I won't be able to buy a hat which I already physically own, for a game I already own, based on a game I already own.

I've dressed as Bill thrice and hung around various L4D2 booths like a bad stench but having a TF2 hat is nothing to do with wanting to show off your love for a game apparently, it's having enough cash to put down on a completely different game.

It's not really anything worth getting angry about, except when my steam friends take it upon themselves to taunt me and then I want to envelope everyone in my rage-gravity well.

I wouldn't want the retarded kids from L4D (you know, the geniuses that couldn't say much more than "kill the nigg*r", "rape the bitch" or a variation of one of these two themes) to pollute the Tf2 community.

hah theres plenty on both just depends on the community. I'm sure if u have a good one with decent number of regular populaters in the server, it should remain relatively unaffected.

I preordered it in Gamestop and got the demo/bat code. I haven't entered the code yet but I assume this will get you the bat and hat, if you want them (I do as I'm a fool) but then when the game is out, you don't have to buy, hell, you can cancel your preorder as soon as they hand over the code.

Sadly I don't know if any English retailers are doing this.
(actually I just checked and Gamestation do it but it quite clearly says that the code will be emailed on release.

I know it's petty but I stood next to Chet dressed as Bill, if I don't get a hat I'm going to hold a grudge like forever.

Are Gamestop not in England? I'd find it rather suprising if they were here (Ireland) and not in the UK.

I don't see why this is much worse than the former way of handing out hats (random draw). Maybe give it to everyone who buys L4D2.
