Valve today announced that those who pre-purchase the PC edition of The Orange Box at Amazon and GoGamer before October 10th will save 10% off the regular price and gain access to the beta version of Team Fortress 2 for the PC. This pre-purchase program is also available at GameStop.[br] So how will you get to play TF2?
Starting immediately, those who pre-purchase The Orange Box for PC at any of these retail outlets in the US will receive a key-code and instructions to download and activate the beta release of Team Fortress 2 from Steam. The beta will conclude with the release of The Orange Box on October 10th.
Note, US only it seems right now.
The Orange Box will have a suggested retail price of $49.95(24 pounds) on the PC and $59.95(29 pounds) on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 console systems. The 10% pre-purchase discount also applies to all three versions at participating retail outlets.

Great news for people without an internet connection ... oh wait, not it isn't...

... So, why are people waiting for the boxed version, exactly? It's cheaper on steam, it's quicker on steam, and if you'd pre-purchased on steam, you'd have been playing the TF2 beta for a couple of weeks already.

Crap PC
Internet = too fail to run steam properly (I'm looking at you Roimhaire :p)

A lot of people still like having some material version that they can hold on to, collect boxes. Personally I like the download, plus I avoided taxes and paying Canadian prices... which haven't really become accustomed to the whole on par with the American dollar scenario.

In my own case It's the same price for Steam and PC Retail versions if you buy through Amazon in the UK at the moment (after VAT), and it can't be 'quicker' to install any one of the Orange Box contents via Broadband than from disc.

Only difference is the TF2 Beta... and frankly, waiting for Team Fortress 2 is kind of second nature anyway.

Also people in Poland can't even use VISA debit cards to buy over Steam.

It will be difficult convincing my parents to use their credit card to buy the game via steam..
