Prepared for Aftermath?

I just built my new system, and it's going to have to put up with the new HDR technology, or I'll be dissapointed..

I have

AMD Athlon 64 +3200 CPU
1GB Twin-X Corsair RAM PC3200
Radeon X800 PRO 256mb
450w Power supply

And the rest, although not as important
X-Navigator case (keeps this thing DAMN cool)
Manual controlled CPU fan (never runs past 29c)
80GB Hard drive
and so on..

My computer is running Half-Life 2 on all high settings, with anti-aliasing at 4x and antriscopic filtering at 8x.. My comp cuts through this game and only shows a slight stutter here and there during really (graphic) intense parts...

How would my system put up with this new HDR technology? I heard that the X800 series and up will be able to handle it...

Any help would be great, I'd like to get my system prepared before it comes out.

x800 won't run hdr on high, and i think aftermath has that

yes it will run fine but it isnt going to be like the lost coast if thats what u were thinking shadow because lost coast has so many high res textures higher polygon count and more bumpmapping so aftermath will run fine on ur pc

Why would aftermath have any steeper requirements than HL2? I heard HDR will be desactivatable.

You are set for Aftermath. Also X800 cards will run HDR in Lost Coast just fine.

X800 don't have sm3 they have sm2, which will run Hdr but not at its best

Sm2 and Sm3 will make no quality diffrence, only PERFORMANCE diffrence.

Wrong, some key features have improved - When concerning the Pixel Shader, the Shader Length has gone from 96 to 65535, which obviously allows for massive improvements in the shader's complexity, Dynamic Branching has been introduced, which is the process of skipping complex shading on pixels that aren't visible, and Shader Anti-Aliasing has been introduced, amongst other enhancements. SM3.0 also improves its Vertex Shader length to 65535 from 256, and also adds Dynamic Branching to the Vertex Shader, again, amongst other improvements.

Also Valve used Geforce 6800 ultras to show of its HDR lost cost, which have SM3

I cant edit my posts from this computer... So i'll just say that aftermath will have steeper system requirements. It will have higher facial detail and hdr. In reply to The Someone, that's like saying HL2 has the same system requirements as HL1, all you have to do is turn off shading + bump mapping.

I want basically the same thing HL2 has, including reflections. I don't care for HDR(whatever HDR is anyway. "High-Density Rendering"?).

I ment besides all those features :) lol.

Wow, you have nearly the same computer as me but I have a little bit better parts.

Well, hdr does really add to the experience. I love it when in splinter cell someone cant see me well enough to shoot since i'm jumping at him and he's blinded by the light.

Well. I'm happy to learn that I'll be set...

My mind is set that there will be a new line of video cards coming out with aftermath...

Just wondering how much it's going to cost.. :D

Just wanted to point out a lot of people miss to point out the the X800 cards don't just do SM2.0 but SM2.0b which can do a lot more instructions than 2.0 and basicly has the same features as SM3.0 except for OpenEX HDR (like in FarCry). You are miss representing otherwise.

9800's can do HDR. not very well, mind you.

If you wanna get an idea of how your card performs with HDR, give "rthdribl" a spin through google...

What about my system? Runs half life 2 extra spicy here :-D.

Edit- Just ran the program, did excellent on 1024 x 768, didnt bother trying rest :-D

Ur system cant handle hdr well... Maybe at 800 x 600. I mean, an x700? p4? lol. At least it's better than mine... :-(
