Prettiest Games

Donkey Kong Country.

I have to say I loved the art and graphics in Donkey Kong Country as well, everything just felt so perfect and themed - from underwater levels to pyramids and jungle romps. Animation was very detailed for the time and characters felt like they had substance and weight. I miss the SNES days.

And on that note Banjo Kazooie, I absolutely loved exploring the environment in the Nintendo/Rare games.

My computer doesn't handle Oblivion, I just have it installed 'cause it looks good on my Steam list. D:

Yeah, then you play the game and it's oh look, this game sucks! And then you have to uninstall.

Or spend hours of headaches on modding, adding stuff that really should have been there in the first place.

Viewtiful Joe
Cel Damage
MGS2: Substance
HL2
Far Cry
Condemned: Criminal Origins
JSRF
Otogi 1 and 2
F.E.A.R.
PGR Series

Off the top of my noggin.

Oblivion - Loved the outdoor areas.
Jet Set Radio - Really blew me away, LOVED the art direction.
Wind Waker - Again, loved the art direction.
Half-Life 2 - Very realistic, not too shiny at all. Love it.
Resident Evil Remake - That was so dark and gritty, scared me to death :(
Jak and Daxter - Loved the environments and characters.

Spellforce 2: Shadow Wars - very pretty for the most part, but with the occasional "arrgh! The bloom!" moments.

Ground Control - Back in the day, that was awesome. And it still ain't bad. Tanks grinding across the battlefield, artillery shells smashing anything they hit, aircraft in intense dogfights with flying missiles and contrails. absolutely marvellous.

World in Conflict - Like Ground Control, but Modernized.

Company of Heroes - what needs to be said about that has already been said in this thread. Fantastic.

Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy - Amazing what they did with the Quake III engine. Very nice in its time with some lovley effects.

Yeah, actually, Jedi Academy was awesome looking. And sooo much fun...

Gun. The wide open ranges and looking out at the horizon from the side of a horseback was pretty.

Although it's old, American McGee's Alice still makes me go, "ooo." The HL2 games are even more yummy.

F.E.A.R.
STALKER
Unreal 2 <--- Was very amazed at how detailed it was
Half-Life 2
HL1 (The canyon... Dayum)

Although there are pretty games in the sense of eye popping scenery, effects and huge poly counts (Half Life 2, Gears of War, Oblivion), the one thing I thought of was the art styles in games. That can make a game even "prettier" than HL2.

Best example for me was DEFCON. Obviously, this game didn't feature HD textures, incredible particle effects or HDR Lighting, but the style of the game stood out for me (the deep blue background combined with the neon like glow of the continental shores, and the redish glow around big cities). When a nuke struck a city, the only indication was a small white light, but combined with the solemn music, and the creepy death toll messages, you really felt what emotion the game was trying to convey.

Wow, not-a-one said Guild Wars.

You can't say that's not a pretty game.

Did they ever do a higher-res version of Riven? Not only is it difficult to get it to run properly, now, but the images are tiny. :|

Sadly no, 1024x768 was the highest res.

TCfromBN - you're right. So many pwetties I can't wemember them all. Added to my list.
