:/

The other Prey demo thread has a link to an overview of the demo. They said it lasted them 45 minutes for SP.

That's pretty damn long if you ask me. Then there's MP on top of that...

45 minutes for SP? And thats just a demo? Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers on Nintendo can be beat 4 times during that 45 minutes.

So this game runs on a modified D3 engine? Does anyone know if Prey will be mod friendly? :stare:

It would be cool if it was just like D3, I'd be able to come out with some incredible stuff, starting from a day after I buy it! :D

3Drealms forums.
Apparently the full game is around 10-12 hours. That's 1, maybe 2 sessions for me. Short.

10-12 hours?! FOR AN ACTION FPS?!

Good lord, that's longer than most out there.

10-12 hours is what I've come to expect these days. But developers tend to exaggerate when asked about the length of their games, so I hope it doesn't turn out to actually be only 8 hours or something. But 10-12 hours in one or two sessions? You'll be playing for 5 hours straight at the least!

Oh, and 45 minute demo ftmfw.

I've finished every game that has had a projected completion time quite a bit before their time (and I don't rush/cheat/play on easy or anything). HL2 was allegedly like 15+ hours or something right? Finished it in 13 hours the first time.

The creator of God of War said his FASTEST tester finished in just about 20 hours...I finished in 8.

I bet I'll finish this game in like 8 or so but as long as it's good enough for me to replay it (like FEAR) then I'm fine with it. Better short and sweet than drawn out and boring (HL2 to me).

I don't care much for game lengths, I'm not really a marathon gamer.
I don't sit down and play for hours on end o_o

I used to play long sessions (4+ hours) but now I find myself squeezing in 15-60 minute sessions most of the time.

lightweights ;p

games have gotten much shorter over the last decade, now they're almost fun-sized. pretty soon you will be finding them in your xmas crackers.

R.I.P the late 90's :(

I want quality not quantity. 8 hours of good gameplay rather than 30 hours of mediocre gameplay. doom III was way to long for its own good. the good turned to boring. if I can have a long game thats fun all the way through then that would be great(stalker maybe?).

Watching some of the videos, I'm pretty sure the game will end up being rather repetitive.

But on a plus, so far none of the levels really look like they're copy & pasted, so that's always good. n.n

What games are those? I don't know what games you are buying, but all the ones I have been playing are longer than games from the 90's. I remember renting dozens of video games years ago, and beating them a few hours later. It was pitiful. These were high caliber games too. In fact, I have beaten hundreds of games in the early 90's, and nearly all of them could easily be finished in a few hours. So you can't really say that they are getting shorter. Games used to be SHORT, and except for some rarities - they weren't even any good. The late 90's, yes they were much longer than previous years, but I don't think you convince me that they were longer than games of today.

The past 5 years or so I buy a few games a year, and play them for a few years. (Half-Life2, Doom 3, Oblivion, WoW, Capcom Vs. Street Fighter, Colin McRae Rally 2005, Morrowind, Max Payne 2, Shenmue II, Grand Theft Auto III, GTA Vice City, and many others others) Yes, some games are too short, I couldn't argue that they aren't, but if you think 12 hours is short for a FPS, then don't play FPS. I don't think you will find one longer than that. Why? Because they are fast paced. You can run and gun through each level in a few minutes, but each level might take months to make. They cram a lot of entertainment into that short period of time. Thats how action games work. Maybe you should stick to RPGs and Sim games.

The only reason I can think of that games might have been longer, is because they use the same handful of textures all along the walls for the whole level - things like that. There was little detail. In FPS now, each room is like a work of art, and a lot of work goes into it.

its all just a matter of the type of game. I prefer games where there is a ton to do optionally, but also the availability of finishing the game quickly if you are so inclined.

same, well not 4+ hours, maybe on games i just got brand new but like yourself i find time hard to come by to play games much these days, the odd gam of pro evo or few rounds of bf2 is pretty much it, i'd have no time to become immersed in some huge rpg or similiar type of game genre(rts etc)

My 4+ hour sprees would be way back in the days of Goldeneye in the summer or something similar.

Yeah, now if I'm going to play an RPG (on consoles) I need to be able to save often. I don't have lots of time to just plop down and game for hours on end.

That's why I love my DS Lite :D Quick bursts of gaming when I have downtime.

yeah my long gaming sessions would be back in my ps1 days and early ps2 days, i played the tanker chapter of mgs2 pretty much straight through, picked the game up early evening on a friday and played it till like 11pm just pausing for the odd snack or check of tv, ah nostalgic times :)

Well, if they've spent enough time on it there will be wierd and different portals, gravity, or environmental anomalies that don't repeat throughout the game. Maybe stuff we haven't even thought of. There are tons of possibilites for puzzles and stuff to make it really un-repetitve. Hopefully they've taken the time to see all the things they can do with what they've implemented.

I just ordered StarWars Republic Commando which people say is REALLY short when they at the same time say its 9-10 hours. So how can this game be long if its only a few hours longer then Republic Commando? For me, 10-12 hours is just fine, i play slow anyway.

Sounds like it will be around 8 hours long, which isn't terribly bad. It does help shine a light on Ep1's 3 hour game for $20 though.

Percentage wise, a few hours is a huge difference when we are talking ~10 hours, don't you think?

Isnt like, 22 june in America 21 june in Europe?

:D i just want it to be out today!

Virustype2, yes maybe, depend tho if those hours are actuall good gameplay or just "when is this over?" hours

Perhaps you're right, perhaps my nostalgia for games like Outcast, Unreal and Duke Nukem 3D is fuzzing my memory.

Awwww, Outcast. I played that to death until I came to a part of the game that was bugged, so I couldn't finish it. That game should be remade.

Bleh, looks like it won't be here until late at night for us Easterners. D:

I really want this soon, but I know Gamespot never gets big demo releases right, so there's a lack of mirrors and they all are bogged down by too many users. Usually, way before you'd finish on the public servers, there will be a different, and better mirror.

Is it still set for late night 21st?

EDIT: Nevermind.
