There is about a $60 difference. About the price of a game. Or am I looking to much into this.

From Newegg.com

Lowest price for 9800XT - $495

Lowest price for 9800 Pro - $305 (this of course is without original packaging 'OEM' and without a heatsink)

OEM have a heatsink/fan...
How'd you come up with that? My guess is you saw it in a picture.

The difference between a 9800 XT and a good 9800 Pro Retail is about 150$ difference.

Asus 9800XT 256MB retail 509$ | ATI 9800 Pro 128MB Retail 365$
Difference 144$
That was the first good quality brand retail card I found.

Actually you can get a ATI retail 9800 XT card for 488$ here.

Aknot got to www.mwave.com and get the ATI made 9800pro for 314.00 the one from newegg for 305.00 doesnt have the cooler the 314.00 one has. the XT blaahh not worth the extra money its like getting a 256 MB card now. unless this is the card your going to have a long time then go all out.

The $305 9800 Pro from Newegg.com i was referring to is the black Sapphire one. It has a fan but NO heatsink. How do i know?, not cause i saw a picture, but because i bought it then returned it because it was defective.

are you joking? the fan is the heatsink.......

lol yeah.
The heatsink can be the exact size of the fan so it looks like the casing but they just cut into the heatsink to mount the fan. very very small heatsink (compared to CPU hsf and sapphire's 9800pro ultimate editions heatsink) and thats all it neads usually.

so it didnt have a fan either.......?

the fan IS the heatsink bro.....its not that hard to comprehend

if you made a mistake then just say so....your not fooling me or asus

Buy the 128mb variant of the 9800xt :E You will get the card for much cheaper and its performance is exactly the same unless you like to play your games at 1600x1200 resolution with 6x FSAA and 8x AA filtering on. And even then the difference will be a few frames per second....

Sapphire make one for those who want to know...

There was just a fan, no large metal heatsink part...there is a small one around the fan though.

Here's a pic from Newegg - http://www.newegg.com/app/Showimage.asp?image=14-102-304-02.JPG/14-102-304-03.JPG/14-102-304-01.JPG

I dont think i made a mistake, i think we just define heatsink & fan differently. To me, and everyone i've ever talked to about this, a fan is the obvious "fan" part, and the heatsink is the metal grill looking part. If my termanology is incorrect then i'm sorry.
