il be getting the game at a local store (already have money down on it) and was wondering, since it doesnt come with dod source and hl1 source, how much will those 2 games cost when they come out? and with the silver package you dont get the box right?

The fact that they are making you pay for HL: S is obsurd. You are paying for an old game with pretty water and bodies that fall all cool like.

Thats why they encourage steam. I payed 59.99 on the nose, for the silver packaged.

Thats HL2 (which id easily pay 50 for. And 10 bucks for two semi enchanced classics, seems fair for the time they took to convert both of those games to the source engine...

They had to do a fair amount of troubleshooting and probably re-positioned some enemies and added some more physicalized objects. I think they also did some of the audio (voices in HL were really grainy and low-qual compared to today's games). To get all that work and a shot at replaying the whole HL adventure again, not knowing what to expect this time, is worth more than $5 to me and I can't wait to play it.

I haven't heard anything to certify they will ever release those games standalone. They don't stand to make a terrible lot from them and it's expensive to publish. I wouldn't be surprised if you don't see them until they come packaged with a platinum edition of HL2

AND you also got Counter-Strike Source for your money too. Although im not a fan of it.. but still. its plenty popular

When asked in an interview, they said that unlike CS:S, HL:S wouldn't be getting any new sounds or textures; they wouldn't do more than just convert and fix any bugs that might pop up.

This one makes most sense to me.

I'm thinking they'll be GOTY Edition extras myself.

hmm well i thought it would make sense for them to release those 2 later on, youd be kinda screwed then if you already purchased it at a store

I thought you couldn't buy HL:S and DOD:S as stand alone products.. isn't that correct? Or am I mistaken?

I imagine (And Im pretty sure theyve already said this) they had to basically re-make the entire game from scratch, because most of it just wasnt compatable with source, and the stuff that was is just too low quality. Im sure all they managed to scavenge from the old HL was old design notes, and a few textures and audio files that were already good quality, but who knows.

$59.95 (for HL2, CS:S, DOD:S, HL:S, CS:CZ, etc) is a steal these days. I paid $58.84 for Doom 3 and that had a sorry excuse for multiplayer (high pings, small unimaginative maps, 4 player only, etc).
