Prince of Persia: Next Gen

Looks ****ing amazing.

Anyone else noticing a theme recently with these artsy, slo-mo trailers over spacy post-rock/electro style music?

beautiful game and the presentation of the video is all right.

Oh... my... god... I don't think I've ever been so moved by a game trailer. That stuff is just sublime... the Sigur Ros(?) track in the background sounds absolutely gorgeous.

Whoever is doing trailers for UbiSoft games needs a goddamn raise. I thought the Assassin's Creed trailer with UNKLE's Lonely Soul playing was great, but this was even better.

Nothing to say about the game itself, but wow, what a trailer! Brought a tear to my eye. ;(

Fantastic trailer, though I may have been persuaded by the use of Sigur Ros.

What's the name of that track anyway? Haven't heard it before.

Great trailer, gorgeous game, cool change in direction by the Ubisoft team. My only gripe is the forced "tag-team". My favorite moments in the PoP series have been when you're completely alone, isolated, and tasked with maneuvering to a seemingly-impossible-to-reach location. For anyone who ever beat the first installment, think back to the final "climbing" stage...ascending that huge tower, all alone, outside, no soundtrack, just you and the obstacles. Those were probably some of the most intense gaming moments I've ever had, and it was all just wonderful.

So yeah, assuming this is released on the PC, I will definitely be playing it in the future.

Some gameplay.

Well... it looks good, no doubt about that. Seems like they're really taking their influences to heart, namely Okami and Shadow of the Colossus. The platforming looks... a little on the easy side compared to what I'm used to from PoP, and the way the checkpoint/death system works is pretty forgiving, but then it always has been I guess. Combat is flashy... can't really tell if it's going to be fun or repetitive yet, but again at least it looks very cool.

Overall a little underwhelmed, but still optimistic.

The whole 'hai guyz teh game is rly non-linear' seems to be a case of a couple of routes through each area from what I'm seeing so far. I was really hoping they would go for a natural style of environment and platforming and move away from the unrealistic style of the past games.

They ripped Okami absolutely with the 'purification' of the land stuff.

Things I like:
- graphics
- pseudo-innovation
- multiple paths to objectives (and having your choices change minor things)

Things I don't like:
- virtual invincibility (LOL YOU CAN'T DIE DON'T WORRY)
- forced tag-team/ally
- changing the way platforming works because of said ally
- tag-team combat system

Overall, I'm disappointed. I liked PoP for it's "oh shit I'm alone and have to navigate this seemingly impossible obstacle course". Now with all of these changes, that core gameplay element is effectively destroyed. I'm sure the game will still be fun, but not nearly as good as it could have been. I also agree that platforming in general does look much easier than in the past, though that was just one area in the game, so who knows, but with that chick to always save you from dying, nothing is really hard anymore, is it?

Wut?
I don't remember any outdoors levels in Prince of Persia. Wasn't it all in the dungeon?

It's looking like the most promising PoP since Sands of Time. I absolutely love that they've re-imagined the art style, I think it's gorgeous and innovative. The only way for the ol' Prince to survive was a reimagining along these lines, I'll buy this if it scores any kind of decent reviews from my usual sources.

wow....anime bs much.

Cel Shading != Anime. The game looks fantastic. Too many developers are going for realism these days, and it's great to see those that take a more artistic route. This game's visuals really stand out compared to other big titles.

i was talking about the art direction....

Wow this looks ****ing fantastic and I like the Ico influences :)

I still fail to see the anime. They look like stylized paintings to me..

ok, how about Japanese art direction?
its more final fantasy type characters and fighting style.
i miss the original character.

Definitely the most pleasant surprise of E3. Haven't played a PoP since Sands of Time and this has pulled me right back in. And to all those worrying about the ally saving you from dying, the developers said she simply acts exactly like a checkpoint, and they felt it was better to keep the player in the game rather than return him to a screen to load back in, which has the same end effect.

I really dont see why everyone is so fussed about this game

the style dont feel so original too me

okami got a similiar visual style

LOVING the oilpainting look, looks like this could be worth the wait. Hopefully Ubisoft wont mess up again, ala Assassin's Creed.

I'm probably alone in this opinion, but I really don't like the art style they have going on in this.

Okami was much more stylized and the cell-shading in Windwaker was much more cartoony. This looks like it's just been overlayed by a lousy photoshop filter.
