Just something I noticed.

Prison Screenshot

When looking at this, and many of the other prison screenshot pictures, it seems a bit relevant to me that this is the perfect opening for the game.

If you notice this screenshot, you will see that Gordon doesn't have any weapons out. I say this; in accordance with the combine, who have stun guns out, and are watching the player. It seems to me that Gordon will be captured at the some point[IMO the start] of the game, and from there on all hell will break loose. The ATI/Valve event at Alcatraz seems to be perhaps some kind of nod to this? I believe the developers said you will start off not knowing what is going on, and this does seem like the appealing option to do so. Of course, there was also a mentioning that the opening of the game will be a waiting type of train ride again, and this screenshot seems to reveal that this would be that suited opening. Dr. Breen seems to be looking straight at you[Gordon], and the look of it seems to offer that you are atleast captured. Remember HL1 was based around finding a gun once, and from there you kept it the rest of the game. So, this is either a moment in the game where you are stripped of your weapons and captured, or it is the opening.[Or the developers took this picture in a camera plane view...which doesn't seem likely considering the combine and breen watching you.]

Thoughts?

I am bored, just got finished programming for a couple hours =p.

Haven't read the PC Zone magazine, I see?
They recount the beginning of the game, great read

That is indeed the start of the game according to the article

It is the start of the game, but it's most likely not a prison. You can walk out if you want to, the guards only watch you with suspicion. DrBreen says something to you.
This is from the PC Zone preview.

No, I have not. I don't read magazines, sorry =p.

The fence and this screenshot and the fence from the many actual prison screenshots seem to relay that it is indeed a prison.

Just something I noticed though.

not all those screens are first person gameplay screens.

As I said, the gating has barb wire, and the look of the fence is exactly the same as the prison. That isn't to say that means much, but I am just taking it on face value.

Also, the way the characters look at the player seem to indicate that it is indeed an in-game player acted picture.

if you played the beta or read the magizen you would know what im talking about

I have not played the beta or read the magazines, I apologize.

I was just giving my opinion on the screenshot. It just seems openly obvious to me. If I am wrong, then just disregard this post.

Well according to PC Zone this is what Dr Breen says:
"Don't worry. You're being treated like this for your own good. You're not ready to make your own decisions yet. But soon you will be free to do as you please."

He speaks to you from a blurry screen, and that's what the screenshot shows too.

I don't think it's a prison, you can walk out. And he wasn't captured before, because why lock up someone in a coma in a prison?

Polykarbon, in the pc zone preview, the big head tv monitor and the baton wielding police are refered to as being within a large train station in city 17, when u begin the game the police arnt after because they dont know who you are but people begin to recognize u, thats pretty much where they left off.

If it is a prison, it looks like a pound ya in the ass prison. Stupid Combine.

I think the mag said that it was about 15 minutes into the game

Don't worry. You're being treated like this for your own good. You're not ready to make your own decisions yet. But soon you will be free to do as you please.

Yea, but this does not imply that he is free to do what he wants. He directly states that "soon you will be free to do as you please".

I really am posting blindly though without reading the magazine.

Woop, didn't see your replies until after I posted. So it is in a train station?
Thank you for clearing that up. Also, I wasn't implying that the police are after you. I was under the assumption that the combine are in total control.

Thanks,

Later.

Maybe Valve are trying to send their fans a message here... :p

Interesting theory misssssssssterrrrrrr Freeman.......

These prison shots got me thinking...

What if there was a mod where you had to orchestrate a prison break.... using only the physics of the game and random objects? Hmm... but then people would be dropping the soap, and there would be lots of "friendly fire." :|

... sorry.

Every shot of HL2 I see gets me salivating, but not really for HL2 itself, although I can't wait to play it as well. But I just imagine the possiblities with games like TF2 and whatever type of CS style game eventually emerges. The possibilities are limitless.

1. The screenshots look helluva cool

2. According to the PCZone magazine and all, I think it's some sort of area where they interrogate or people or something.

3. These guys don't look as "evil" as the other combine troopers, these looks more like ordinary policemen, maybe you'll get to fight with them or just don't have to fight them? I wouldn't really want to battle against them, they looks way too cool and at the same time not hostile enough, more like "proud" policemen or something, especially if you look at the guy to the right. :p

Use the spoiler tags son. ;(
I regret walking into this thread.

I like the way the Combine guys all look a little different, even in uniform. Like the one nearest to the camera is tall and thin, but the guy under the Breen screen (lol) looks like a pudgy little doughnut addict. And the two guys guarding the gate straight ahead, the one on the left (our left) is big and tough looking while the one on the right is more normally proportioned.

you dont think these guys look evil? just thinking about being in that facility, the propoganda screen, the combine standing around watching me suspiciously, it sounds like that part of the game will be very creepy/evil.
