I wanted to put some exposive objects in my map.

I created a prop_physics entity.

When I clicked on world model and then browse hammer closed and an error message came up asking me if I wanted to send and error report.

What should I do?

A microsoft thingy? If so it doesn't matter, it crashed. Restart hammer and make sure you save often.

can happen. Hammer is a demanding application.
Are your PC specs high enough? 1024 MB Ram is highly recommended for instance.

also, how clean of virusses and adware is your system?

Sigh.

This is what I could find from some of my old posts on the subject:

- ensure that your games are all up-to-date and your SDK content is fresh;
- try running in 1024x768 or higher instead of 800x600;
- reinstall DirectX;
- reinstall, update, or roll back video drivers;
- if you're using two monitors, don't;
- consider removing custom models from the model folders;
- remove HL2 and Steam, delete all folders, restart, and reinstall.

Raeven needs to brain dump and sticky the thread.

I have a pretty good system here are the specs

512 MB of Ram
3.0 Ghz pentium 4 processor
Nvidia GeForce 6200 with 256 MB of ram
intel D915PCY motherboard
80 GB seagate hard drive
A 17" compaq flatscreen monitor set to 1024 x 768 resolution

All of my software is up to date
I scaned my computer for viruses and spyware and I'm clean.

I think the problem that I am having is that there is a glitch in hammer.

The same thing happens every time I try to load a world model.

Validate all steam files or/and try deleting and reinstalling steamSDK.
Your computers specs look good, but i think you should update to 1gb ram... But 512 should be still enough to run hammer...

Just remove any custom models from the models directory, as raeven said...

I don't have any custom models.

All I want to do is load a world model into hammer and it won't work.

All that I have done with hammer is install Source SDK and run hammer. :flame:

By the way, I refreshed all of the SDK content but it did nothing.

Well this happens to me when I open the props_lab folder. It would be nice to know what the hell is wrong. Right now I use GCFscape to browse the models there. I am going to put up this question on steampowered for valve to figure out.

Open source models.gcf Steam locks the files, so you can do one of these to get around it: close steam or duplicate the file to a new filename and open it

Then in GCFscape open hl2>models then you are smooth sailing.

I figured out how to use GCFscape.

Also, the world models work fine when I set Source SDK to work with Half Life 2 or Counter Strike. They still don't work for Half Life 2: Deathmatch.

When I type in the file name, the 3d view shows the model, but when I run the game, the model is not there.

I have tried the world model with prop_physics, prop_detail, prop_static, and prop_dynamic. Is anything that I have tried wrong?

No. I created a prop_physics, prop_detail, prop_static, and prop_dynamic and set the world model to "models\props_lab\keypad.mdl".

In the 3d view it showed the keypad. When I ran the map there was no keypad and for Prop_dynamic there was the word error where the keypad should have been.

When I downloaded Hammer it came with a sample map. When I copied and pasted props from that map into mine it worked fine but when I created them myself they didn't work.

This problem is getting really frustrating. :angry:

So you're missing keypad.mdl.

Verify game content?

I have all of the models. I checked.

If I didn't have the models then the models would appear in the 3d view.

I found out something else. When I save the level with one of the models that doesn't work, close Hammer and then open it, the model with the problem seems to become corrupt.
