Problems getting a new driver

Anyone else getting a steam message urging us to update our video driver
like this

I tried this morning to update my ATI Radeon 9700 from it s current driver
I successfully downloaded The ATI 5.5 catalyst drivers
I successfully uninstalled the ati control panel and display driver
But when installing the new driver it comes to an error message and the driver reverts instantly to the original driver


Help?
I have a Dell Inspiron 9100
3ghz P4
512MB Ram
Radeon 9700 128Mb gfx card
Windows XP + SP2

u cant u use the driver for mobile cards off of the main site yes i no it sux i recommend using the omega drivers

Yes, the ATI Mobility drivers are not included in the Catalyst driver from ATI. The Omega Drivers (www.omegadrivers.net) should have them if I'm not mistaken. Otherwise, you'll need to go to your laptop manufacturer's web site to get the driver. Same is true with the nVidia GeForce Go laptop cards.

Alternatively you can ignore the Steam nag by clicking on "Continue Anyway".

tried the omega drivers
resulted in instability and general computer mayhem
so i'll stick with my 6.14s for the mo
