I tried to use the ~ butthon button but its not pulling the console down. Is their a different way to do it if your running the game through the Steam servers? Im sorry Im new to this. Thanks

Go to your options, keyboard, advanced and enable the dev console.

Do as he says, and if you're scandinavian, add this line to your
\\Steam\SteamApps\user-name\counter-strike source\cstrike\cfg\autoexec.cfg :
bind \ "toggleconsole"

If you don't have an autoexec.cfg, just make one in notepad.

You might also want to add the switch
-console
to the launch options of your games as it will not only provoke the console in the beginning of the game, it will also reduce loadtime for Half-Life 2 as it disables the 3D-scenery.

The -console switch will make it to the console. All you need is to add it to the properties of the menu option or icon you are loading HL2 from.

Once you have it setup, just press the key in the corner of the keyboard (above Tab, below Esc) and you will be in the console - hopefully.

If you're Scandinavian? Is that for real? lol... that just sounds really funny.

Yes, scandinavians have different keyboards and suffers from a rather tricky problem with the console in Half-Life 2.

I myself fixed it by fist typing -console in launch options.
That made it appear when the game starts.
But I do also wish to open the console at anytime more than just in startup. The ~ button doesn't work in scandinavia.
Then I binded another button than ~ to the toggleconsole command. You can take any of the F-buttons like F1, F2, etc...

Worked fine for me. :)

Oh, and remember to activate the console in the options menu.
