How do you feel about profanity?

Personally I love it. And I laugh at people who have the claim "Intelligent people do not use profane words."

I would go as far as to say maybe sometimes I might not trust a person who absolutely does not use profanity. Real people swear from time to time!

It's only another way of expressing what you want to say. Instead of saying "Fiddle Sticks" we say "****". As times change, so does the way/things we say. I hate it when people try to say that saying a word is bad....

**** is one of my favourite words! Custom user title for the first person to guess it.

I hate preteens who swear an unnecessary amount.

I like swearing and dependant on the situation, I mostly don't get people telling me how to speak, if I want to colour a sentence with **** I will.

Saying that I am not entirely obsessed with expletives, and I am quite happy to speak without them.

Swears are great for adding emphasis so aye, I like em.

of course! You are from the UK after all.

I will now take on the title, "I Hate Custom Titles"

Boy do I ever get into trouble debating this in DOD:S servers.

Every time:

"There are children here!"

Me: "Swearing is the greater evil over a game that it's goal was to show realism in WW2????"

Banned...

If a game server has rules against profanity I will typically respect it(mostly because I'd rather play than swear). Just as I will respect not swearing around my family who do not like profanity(but still swear time to time) when I am in their home.

Congratulations Raziaar. :)

Thanks, I guess. lol

Profanity has its uses - like for emphasis - but otherwise, **** that.

Of course, I think saying sh*t is fine but not what BHC said. I vote no on racist terms.

Naggar isn't even a word, let alone a racist one.

Well yeah, racial slurs are of course an entirely different thing and I don't support them.

Though BHC didn't say something racist. Though it is ambiguous and potentially misunderstood. Imagine somebody calling a black person a 'nagger', one who nags. That won't end well.

i use it in context yanno? im not like one of those people who feel they need to put it in everywhere they can.

The first time I heard the word "niggardly" I was shocked. I think I heard it on NPR.

It depends. I don't find anything wrong in cursing, but some people do it in a way that's distasteful. Often cursing adds humor to a situation.

Also, in Polish there's a word that certain people (usually those with presumably low IQ) tend to use instead of a comma or when they need additional time to think what they want to say next. These people annoy the shit out of me.

Equating a gaming server to a home doesn't work. Sure I'm a guest in both but a home typically comes with an invite from friends or family of whom I care greatly. I do not go into either with intentions of swearing, it's just part of my vocabulary and how I express myself. Sometimes words slip and with my family they at least will not scold you like a child and I have no problem apologizing when that occurs but I never respond to anger or threats like most on DOD servers come forward to you with, so I have some fun.

I sometime make up combo's of words with an interspersed swear if I need to put emphasis on a certain thing or to explain how awesome/creepy/huge/depraved etc some thing is. One I tend to use a lot is "chuck-f*ckling" I have no idea what it means or where I got it from :|. Other than that its just the usual stuff like shit , crap , piss etc.

is that kind of the equivalent of "Uhhhh"?

I'm curious about this one as well. Because almost everybody has that form of speech. Hell, even Obama does it all the time and he's an incredibly intelligent guy and good speaker.

I am impressed when I see somebody who can speak eloquently and without any of those contemplative pauses at all.

"PimpinPenguin" voted that he hated profanity. Irony at its worst.

No. i voted that i didn't care for it not that i hated it. I don't care much about people using profanity, but i do hate it when people overuse it. There is no reason to have to use it in every sentence. I myself to do swear but i always try to avoid it when i'm speaking to people.

Wow. I'm surprised you actually did it. lol

Maybe I should have worded that second option as "I hate it!", since the third option is the undecided / apathetic one.

I meant "I don't care for it at all" sort of as a person who thinks something is distasteful would say, rather than "****ing thing sucks!"
