I was wondering if anyone had some good progressive metal bands to suggest, something along the lines of Dream Theater and Savatage.

Liquid Tension Experiment use elements of metal and progression, but if you're a DT fan I guess you've probably heard them.

One of the best progressive metal bands, IMO, is Atheist. They just re-released all of their old albums, so it shouldn't be too hard to find one or all of them. Amazing musicianship.

Also try Cynic, Gordian Knot, and Spiral Architect. These bands also put the music back in musicianship. Top-notch all of them. Enjoy!

Ah, Atheist. I keep meaning to check them out as I'm planning on going to Wacken this year.

Lucky bloody you! That's the second time I have said that! I desperately want to go to Wacken some year, but who knows when that'll actually be!

I'm still thinking on going, really do want to, but its the getting people to go with thats the problem at the moment. Alot of the bands on the bill don't appeal to alot of my mates. Hell, I haven't heard some, I'm just in high hopes that Sodom get announced to play.

Some of those aren't really progressive metal, like Iced Earth and Nightwish, but the ones I know about are quite good. You'd do well to check out quite some of those.

Yeah I put a little note next to Iced Earth but forgot for Nightwish :(
