While it's true that there were no first-party VGA cables in the previous generation (that is, unless you count the Dreamcast)... you could have bought a little box that converts component video into VGA. There are even some specially designed to hook directly into the consoles themselves (rather than a universal adapter requiring you to also buy the console's component cables).

yes thats similar to what I have. but although its quite good, its still S-video or component video being converted to display on VGA. its not VGA. It's only as good as the source--the weakest link

all of them ? like, even the standard crt ?
VGA PC monitor can display HD yes.

Composite is the old red, white, and yellow kind where all of the video information goes through one cable. Component is the kind used for HDTV. Are you using the right one? With a decent component to VGA converter/transcoder you can play at whatever HDTV resolutions the game supports. Keep in mind that the standard for 360 games is 720p, which is 1024x720 (if you aren't in widescreen)... so, if you're expecting 1600x1200 or 2048x1536 you might be disappointed. The first-party VGA cable will probably be playing at the same resolution. If you have realistic expectations and are still disappointed, it might be scaling the video for some reason. If it's not scaling there shouldn't be much of a difference, if it's even noticeable.

My tv is a normal TV (Non-HDTV) but it does support 16:9 support which eliminates the lines and makes the image a lot sharper...my TV also supports component cables even though it's not an HDTV.
