Ok i know for a fact that it is based in East Europe, i know for a fact this is a stupid thread, i know for a fact that not many games are based anywhere, there just a game. The biggest shocker is...........Half Life 2 is based on...... Earth?

Another thing, what exactly has a Kremlin theme? Is Azner referring to the Church where you rendezvous with Grigori? St. Basil's and the Kremlin are two very different things.
There goes my 12 year old knowledge again...yes its that church... ok then may i say ST Basils has the same structuring

Sorry Azner, you had a good point but it's gone down in flames.

I think I would liken the setting of HL2 to Ankh-Morpork, the central city in Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels: a huge imaginary place, cobbled together from ideas heavily influenced by the great European cities and their architecture.

wrong. ankh-morpork is a twin city with a river flowing right thru the middle of it, so that doesnt sound like city 17 does it.?
ankh-morpork is based heavily on ancient northh-african and indian cities, i dont think its based on east european citites.

I think you misunderstood him.

His point was that in the same way that Ankh-Morpork is a sharpened and embellished synthesis of 18th-19th-century London, New York, Seattle, Chicago, Tallinn and other cities, City-17 is a sort of cultural collage built from bits of Moscow, St Petersberg, Prague, Odessa, etc.

So as in other words, ravenholm---> anywhere
