lol "and arguably less people following organised religions" is the root of stupidity? I think you have it backwards!
If only he'd actually said that!

Hay guys let's compare two films of completely different genre, completely different demographic, completely different SIZE of said demographic, completely different maturity rating, completely different amount of advertising and promotion, and completely different amount of already-established popularity in popular culture.
Let's compare these two movies as if they were on equal footing and make conclusions based on that.
Abandoning all sarcasm, Jverne, the point is that this says absolutely nothing about what the average person thinks is a good or better movie.
the average person just wants to see shit being blown up and doesn't even realize his shallowness or give a shit about any kind of hidden meaning. basically nothing that challenges his brain.
So according to Jverne, if we don't watch just movies with "deep meanings", social commentary and moral lessons, we are labeled dumb asses... :dozey:
I for one did like D9 even dough I saw the crappy Internet version. However it's not one of those movies that I would like to watch over and over again, simply because the social commentary side of the film really didn't appeal to me. I found the setting disgusting, and I feel sorry for the people that really have to live there.
So the bottom line is, if D9 and T2 were on TV at the same time, I'd rather watch T2.
EDIT:
After reading more of the previous posts I realized he was actually referring to Transformers 2 and not Terminator 2 as I originally thought. So I take it back if D9 and T2 were on TV at the same time, I'd rather turn off the TV...
Majority of people are tasteless morons. Nothing new.
The only challenging thing about D9 is how much gore I can take before I write the director off as gib-obsessed.nope. if the average person would be less (voluntarily) dumb he'd watch D9 instead of T2. the average person just wants to see shit being blown up and doesn't even realize his shallowness or give a shit about any kind of hidden meaning. basically nothing that challenges his brain.
even worse...being smart nowadays is not really cool and is even ridiculed.

What defines taste? Being a prick about it?
Absolutely. I mean, let's look at you - you have no ****ing taste.
Absolutely. I mean, let's look at you - you have no ****ing taste.
I suppose that makes you the very definition of having it then.
But whatever. Im just getting abit tired of the argument that liking a certain movie and disliking another makes you an idiot. Every movie board I looked at at Imbd are like that.
"How old are people who likes this? you must be 12"
"LOL EVERYONE WHO LIKES THIS IS A FAG!"
"Im so smart for liking this. If you don't, that means you didn't get the incredibly complicated plot and are stupid" etc
I mean, good for them. Millions of people, they belive themself to be superior, becouse of ****ing movie taste. Seems a bit pretentious. Im sure these people also have other subjects that makes them feel better. But still, just douchbags if you ask me.

What myth? The one you just created?D9 obviously debunked the myth that movies can be smart as well as fun.
Do something about it? Do what? this is not the fall of man or anything. Nothing need so be done. Bay won't enter any director hall of fame. People don't watch Bays movies for good acting or plot. It's a CGI explosion fest. And it looks cool. Same reason you'd go watch fireworks.
And D9 did well. I also enjoyed the hell out of D9, way more then T2 and hope they keep making movies like that.
Hopefully a sequal where CJ returns with a vengeance, Independence stile. Ka-bom.
What myth? The one you just created?
Also, define smart.
