I've finally had enough of not being able to play off-line with friends, and the extreme motion sickness I get while playing CoD4. I really want a console. However, I don't know which to choose from..

personally I feel the 360 is very tempting, because of the catalogue of good games and cost, but then I also know that the PS3 has some good features, like the free internet.

I'm also planning on getting a cheap 32"+ screen to use for the console, so will need a bit of help with that.

Cheers

In my opinion the only deciding factor for me, is if you want to watch Bluray movies or not, taking in mind that they will be mainstream in the not so distant future.

I would say 360 as live is better IMO, also although blu-ray will be the standard in the future by the time it does blu-ray players will get cheaper than the ps3.

360. Better controller and games IMO. Buy a blue-ray player when their cheaper. Probably be better then the ps3 one soon anyway.

360 for a better selection of games
plus you'll be able to play with more of us HL2.netters!

So 360 seems to be leading atm...

But bare in mind i'll still be using my computer for Valve games and RTS games.

I'm not really fussed at all about the blu-ray player.

The deciding factor for me is the games. Personally, looking through the list, the PS3 has one title that has my interest but as of recently that's been dwindling somewhat (MGS4), but that's just me, you may think differently. Free online play is good and all but why should I care if theres no games out there I will use with it? But again, it's all prefrences, and I respect that others may feel the same about the 360. Opinions.

But then, I don't mind paying a measly 40 pounds for a great online service that I use every night, so I don't even bother taking in into consideration.

I got the 360 a year back simply because of a great line up of games that were coming out in the months. Bioshock, Mass Effect, Halo 3, COD4, Orange Box bundle... yeah, four out of five of those titles are PC games, too, but then I haven't the bother or need to upgrade my PC and b) all my friends play on the 360 and in general, I much prefer the console/layed back environment. Every saturday I have mates over and we play COD4 on the 360 - I wouldn't be doing that if it was on PC at all. But again, that's me.

I have no problem with the PS3 - at all, actually - it just hasn't got the games I want. Maybe in a year it will. Who knows? I personally wouldn't get it for Bluray though, I don't watch DVDs enough as it is and when I do, standard definition does me just fine.

I suggest you compile lists of games you want and stack 'em up beside each other. A list for each console, then see what takes your fancy.

In all honesty, take a look at them both. Don't ask a forum of people, as it's still a big "Hate Sony" bandwagon. Look at both and decide "Which one has more games I want/Which one fits my budget best" then find people who have them, and test out the controls for yourself. Some people say the Xbox controls are better, but to me, they suck. So really, everybody has their own opinions, make your own.

360, but PS3 has some titles I'd consider looking at, it's all up to which game library you like better

I prefer the PS3. It has better exclusives and free online, which are the main selling points for me. Also it already sounds like you have a good PC, and the majority of 360 "exclusive" games are also on PC ... to the point where owning both is almost redundant. I also get a lot of use out of the Blu-Ray player, and you might too in the future.

But look at the exclusives and decide for yourself. I own a PS3 and a high-end PC, and that leaves me completely satisfied. My roommate also has a 360 to catch anything that falls through the cracks :p .

I myself am getting a PS3 soon. I'm no 360 hater, I play round my friend's house very often, but too many 360 games are available on PC with better graphics and controls for me to see the point in buying one. I was going to get one when Mass Effect came out, but it's the same story there: Wait a while, then get the better version on PC. Plus, with Blu-Ray winning the HD war it makes sense to buy a PS3, as you should bear in mind standard Blu-Ray players are not updatable, so they may not be able to play new releases in a few years.

Also it has MGS4. If that's a not a good reason I dunno what is.

This is always a sticky discussion on an internet forum, esp. this one. :O

In my opinion, the PS3 is just a better put-together console. If there is one thing Sony knows it is hardware. The addition of Blu-ray functionality for games and movies and also the wireless networking capabilities out of the box make it the standout machine. The quieter disc drive (compared to the 360) also don't hurt. Sure, the 360 started out hot and with some great "exclusives," but almost all of these have already or will be soon releasing on the PC as well (and even Bioshock will likely be coming in the fall for the PS3). People talk about a great library of games for the 360 but if you cut through the crap titles, there are only a handful for it (that goes for the PS3 as well now too though). $60 games are keeping me from investing too heavily in much for either of those 2 systems. This is why I have a grand total of 3 games for my 360 and 4 for my PS3 (soon to be 5 Monday at Midnight ;)).

Do whatever you like, but this year will prove that it is nicer to be a PS3 ower than a 360 (though I am SURE I will like Fable 2 and Alan Wake A TON if they make it out in '08).

Well there's alot of mixed opinions.

Could anyone help out with what TV to buy? Please take into consideration i'll be buying from the UK.

I wouldn't listen to smwScott, "better exclusives" my ass..

Goddamned fanboy.

Why can't you all be rich kidz like me so you can buy both consoles?

Pretty much matches my sentiments exactly, although I wouldn't call the exclusives better, both systems have or will have some great exclusives. If you have a high-end PC, you'll probably be better off getting a PS3. Many of the popular games on the 360 (Gears of War, Mass Effect, Bioshock) are or will be out on the PC. The PS3 has a great list of upcoming exclusives that you can't get on any other platform. It usually boils down to Xbox360 for live, or PS3 for upcoming exclusives and features.

I have both and I never play my PS3, take that into consideration.

But he also must take into consideration what you are playing on your 360...

What are you playing on your 360??

The deciding factor always seems to come down to this: better online (Xbox Live), or more trustworthy hardware (PS3)? Both can be argued either way, but they seem to be the least subjective means of deciding. Besides that, it's up to your preference of games. The 360 is always said to have 'better' games, but I'd say it's more like it just has more high quality ones. Whether or not they're actually good is down to the player, and half of the stuff that was hailed as brilliant last year alot of people didn't like anyway. There's also the price, but as I understand it that's pretty close now anyway, with Xbox Live subscriptions and such (though it's worth it) bumping the 360 up with the PS3.

Take a good look at both, take your time and decide which suits you better. Personally I got the 360 on a total whim, but luckily I don't regret it. ^_^

Well another reason i'm after a console is because my PC can't keep up with next-gen games, and i'm not prepared to keep paying money to update it.

I had my heart set on an 8800GT, but they still haven't budged in price, so I might aswell spend a little more and get the benefits and simplicity of a console.

Your best bet is to look at what games both systems have to offer now and in the future, then figure out which ones you'd rather play and make your decision based on that.

But he also must take into consideration what you are playing on your 360...

What are you playing on your 360??

Umm let's see off the top of my head

Gears
halo 3
cod 4
cod 3
cod 2
crackdown
condemned
hitman blood money
splinter cell double agent
the darkness
bioshock
mass effect

arcade:
castlevania symphony of the night
ikaruga
worms
carcassone (free)
undertow(free)

I don't hate Sony at all.The only downside to PS3 is the lack of games and the somewhat higher price tag.
I actually own a 360 myself but if i didn't and had to choose between those two, i'd go for the PS3.

The 360 exclusives are bullshit and the live service is a rip off in my opinion. With Blue Ray being the winning future movie format, it's just a matter of time till the PS3 gains the upper hand.

I think the Xbox360 is the better deal for the game library and good console multi-player experience through live. But you have to be willing to pay for the MP and if you have other systems then a lot of the games are overlap (especially with PC). That's why I have a PC/PS3/Wii. Although if I had just 1 system for gaming then it would be xbox360. (but I like hi-def movies :p)

BUT then there's the Xbox360 failure rate...
(better with the new revisions but still not acceptable)

For 32" HDTV I'd get a 720p LCD. I wouldn't think you would benefit from a 1080p screen of that size at all. Maybe get a 37" screen instead though. Similar price as the 32" here in the USA. Samsung seems very popular and I think their screens look good. Sony is good of course although usually more $$. I got my 40" Sony on clearance so it happened to be cheaper than the samsung/toshiba models I was also looking at. Plus the picture was better. :)

Considering that I would no longer be using my PC for gaming (other than Valve titles) is it worth going for the 360? I don't really mind if all the 360 games are out on PC, simply because I wouldn't be able to play them anyway.

Thanks for the tip about 720/1080p. I could of wasted my money on a better screen if I didn't know that!

I agree with Asus that the 360 is good as a dedicated gaming machine. You have to be able to justify the cost of the online, so if you're combining it with other systems you won't really be getting the same value out of it (except Wii, which is something different entirely).

You also should consider that the PS3 is probably more future proof than the 360.

The only thing to consider is the entertainment value that can be attained from the machine early after it's purchase. Long term who cares you can always buy a machine then when it actually matters as opposed to now with nothing much actually out. That's a vote for the 360, although I despise the idea of paying Microsoft money for Live I still use mine for single player all the time.

Obligatory I hope any 360 you buy doesn't die in the arse line.

Buy both! Both consoles have or will have a very good catalog. PS3 is getting MGS4, LBP, and God of War III. 360 is hopefully getting some good exclusive titles as well, such as Alan Wake (also PC), Ninja Gaiden II, Gears of War II, Ect.

Please, please don't suggest buying both.

I don't have the money - that's why the topics called: "PS3 or XBOX ?"

Come to think of it, the only question you really need to be asking yourself right now is... which system would you rather play GTA IV on? :p

No the question is which system has the DLC for GTA IV? :p

No the question is which system has the DLC for GTA IV? :p
If I had GTA4 on the Xbox360 i probably would not end up buying the 2 episodes MS paid them to make. Hell, I don't even know what the content is atm. But I would be considering which system my friends had for the MP.

Come on i'm trying to make a point here :p

Although I can certainly see what you're saying about MP but all my friends have 360s (i'm the only one with a ps3 :O )most people here also have 360s

You are a douchebag of epic proportions. And a spoiled one at that.

Most 360 exclusives (Mass Effect, Alan Wake, Bioshock, Gears of War, etc.) are also available on PC. I inferred that he already had a good PC because he at least had a good enough one to play CoD4. Therefore, buying a PS3 would open up many more options for him. Many other people expressed almost the exact same sentiments before and after my post.

Please point out where the "Goddamned fanboy" comments come through in that or my original post? Also, I think I deserve an explanation as to why you're such an asshole. Either offer a valid explanation or stop dogging my goddamn posts like some immature little shit.
