PS3 or XBOX ?

Most 360 exclusives (Mass Effect, Alan Wake, Bioshock, Gears of War, etc.) are also available on PC. I inferred that he already had a good PC because he at least had a good enough one to play CoD4. Therefore, buying a PS3 would open up many more options for him. Many other people expressed almost the exact same sentiments before and after my post.

You raise a valid point, however; OP said he was tired of not being to play offline with friends and he was suffering from motion sickness.

The point is void to me as I would rather play said games on my 360, but I know what you are saying.

Again, it all depends on the games. The PS3 isn't an option for me myself because I can't see anything appealing gamewise except for MGS4, and in terms of exclusives so far... well, disapointing comes to mind but that's my own opinion.

Citrus, have you looked in to any of them as of yet? Just pick what console has the most games you want to play on it.

Fair enough, if you don't have a high end PC or for whatever reason don't want to use it, then the 360 is a very competitive choice. It's arguably a superior choice - if I didn't have a capable PC I'm pretty sure I would buy one for Mass Effect alone, let alone games like Alan Wake and Bioshock.

However most of the exclusives I know of, with the exception of Halo 3, don't have a strong offline multiplayer component anyway. This goes for both consoles though, as FPS games in general seem to be veering away from split-screen.

As far as PS3 exclusives, I can think of MGS4, Little Big Planet, Haze, Killzone 2, Resistance 2, and already released ones like Ratchet and Clank and Uncharted. There's some others too I'm sure.

He just needs to look at the two game rosters and decide what fits him best, as that's really all it comes down to in the long run.

Well another reason i'm after a console is because my PC can't keep up with next-gen games, and i'm not prepared to keep paying money to update it.

I had my heart set on an 8800GT, but they still haven't budged in price, so I might aswell spend a little more and get the benefits and simplicity of a console.

I think the 8800GT is about $150 or less if you get it on sale at newegg. the sale ends in a few days I think. There is a thread on it in Hardware / Software.

I don't like consoles personally. But there are more games for them, hands down. I'd get a video card for your PC, and, if you really want a console, I'd get a Wii. It's really the only console that makes sense if you have a good PC, and don't mind missing a handful of console games. Then, on your PC, you can play the huge hits (that mostly appear on the 360), and you would have a console that is completely different. I think if you have a decent processor and ram, then an 8800GT is roughly equivalent to the PS3 and 360. So, like I said, you can play those games, and like others have said, usually the PC version is better (for example, higher resolutions, arguably better controls, and more content ((gears of war))), though it does come out a little later.

BTW Haze is due out on the PC soon, as well as Spore, and Devil May Cry ... 4? No word on Condemned 2 or GTA 4 yet, but I'm sure we will see them on the PC one day. I do wish that Microsoft would put more of it's console hits on the PC in a timely fashion. For example, Halo 3, Forza Motorsport 2, etc.

and he was suffering from motion sickness.

Heh guess I missed that part.

Try making sure the room is brightly lit and sitting farther back, so you can see the wall behind your monitor not moving. Try messing around with refresh rates and resolutions - low resolution stuff can make me feel sick, prime example was when I was playing a n64 emulator fullscreen on my 22" monitor, got incredibly nauseous within 15 minutes of it. Also some refresh rates just set people off so try 60, 65, 75, whatever your monitor goes to. For games, max resolution, minimize detail if your system can't handle it on full. Using a new (old) LCD - old LCDs had a limitation on how fast then could change a picture often reducing their effective refresh rate.

Try having some stuff with ginger in it before hand, or ginger tablets. Ginger helps calm the cause of motion sickness (I take ginger pills for plane flights).

Why diss the Xbox 360 because most of the games also come for PC? I mean whats the point in saying that buy the PS3 because most Xbox titles come to PC when the guy says he doesn't want to upgrade his computer anymore and that he's buying a console... Umm dumbness to teh max? This was one of the main reasons I actually bought the Xbox, the games I want to play on PC also come for the Xbox 360.

Games are the real factor IMO. When I was buying a console I never looked at it's multimedia functionality. But if we take that route, the Xbox live has the video service running on, which means downloading HD movies and watching them from your HDD, no discs needed.

If you like FPS games then I'd go for Xbox 360, IMO the controller is way better for FPS games. But thats a personal prefrence. You really have to try the controllers, I never liked the PS controller, I mean it just feels so goddamn stupid to my hands. Where in the xbox 360 controller fits like a charm.

Actually if you preffer any games at all go with Xbox 360, plus Valve titles run better on it.

I never dissed it for that fact. However, it is one of the reasons why I'm getting a PS3 over a 360. My PC is very current, and the only games for the 360 that really appealed to me are also available on the PC, or will be. There are far more PS3 exclusives that I'd like to play, and they won't be showing up on the PC.

If you like FPS games, you should stick to the PC. No matter which way you look at it, mouse and keyboard just work so much better than a controller for FPS games. As for the actual controllers, it is really a matter of preference, as you said. I've been using the PlayStation controller for around 10 years now. Even the controller I purchased for my PC resembles the Dualshock. I'm just more comfortable with it's shape than any other controller.

Actually if you preffer any games at all go with Xbox 360, plus Valve titles run better on it.

You just sank into fanboy territory, and no one likes a fanboy (unless they're other fanboys). Sure, currently the PS3's library is currently rather lacking when compared to the 360, but that hardly means that it doesn't have any good games. Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, Motorstorm, Warhawk... all great exclusives that can be appreciated by many gamers. The reason why Orange Box does not match the performance of the 360 is because Valve left it for EA to port, and we know all know how EA does business. It's not the fault of Sony or the PS3. Even so, the platform of choice for the Orange Box remains the PC.

They're rather cheap now, a friend of mine got a decent 8800GT with a Zalman cooler for about ?160.

As for the two consoles, I don't think I could pick between the two as I use both of them equally .. although the Wii a lot more than either lately :/

Both have a great choice of current and upcoming games, both have great online services and DLC although I do prefer Xbox: Live over the PS3's online service as it's far more developed imo.

Sorry I couldn't be of much help, but I love all of em too much to pick one of them :p

You are a douchebag of epic proportions. And a spoiled one at that.
How am I spoiled?
I paid for my 1700 euro PC with my own money, I paid for my 400 euro XB360 with my own money, I paid for my 500 euro PS3 with my own money.

It would be a 360 for me, I suppose - I'm not a big fan of the PS3 exclusives and it would get me out of the money-pit that is maintaining a gaming PC.

How the hell would he know that? The obnoxious 'rich kidz' thing in your first post told everyone otherwise.

Thanks for the info, but I live in England, and newegg only deliver to America don't they?

By looking at the current games, I would go for a 360. Even though alot of the games are on PC, they would be too high spec for me to play.

Try setting using the command "cg_fov 80" for motion sickness in CoD. The default is 65, which is WAY too low.

Don't forget there are some great games that are only on the PC. I'm not a big gamer, so I can't make a list, but off the top of my head, a couple of HUGELY popular games for PC are World of Warcraft and Eve.

there are other great games only on PC - for example The Witcher. Supposed to be really fantastic according to 340+ voters here:

I'm going to get that game when I upgrade. I'm getting ready to move right now, so upgrading my PC would be foolish. I may need the money for more furniture or something

1. Research the list of current and upcoming exclusives
2. Pick which system you'd rather have based on Games and Features
3. ???
4. Profit

Honestly, asking for opinion between these two consoles is almost like trolling for a flame war. I assume your intentions are genuine, in which case just follow the simple steps above. The problem with asking for other's opinion when it comes to consoles is, people have different taste in games. What others view as the best thing since sliced bread may simply not match your taste.

It's not your money if your parents gave it to you. :p
They didn't, it's money from the state.

1. 105 euro because I'm a student

2. 130 euro because my father passed away early and thus can't support me, I get the 130 until I turn 20.

So all I get is 235 euro a month, but if you have relatives whom are good at investing money etc, that can help quite a bit.

I'm not going to bother doing currency transactions here but the kids with poor parents around these parts get around $200 a fortnight and that increases when they hit 18. However, they must be studying or be working (not earning over a certain cap). Or when they are 18 and living elsewhere they can just claim to be unemployed bogans and get more money.

ps3 aka "piss shit" is coming out with a thing called ps3 home check it out

Keep the troll material far away thanks, it's not needed or welcome. All you'll do is start a pointless argument that results in kids crying over nothing.

Ight well any ways Does this even change your mind of liking the ps better then the xbox

But then it isn't your money that you earned. I doubt the intention of state funds are to buy expensive video game systems.

The intention of state funds are to give the youth money to spend how they see fit, be it clothes, movies, candy, videogames.

Technically I have to 'earn' the money, seeing as if I were to stop studying(And studying when one's 18+ isn't mandatory), I wouldn't get the money anymore.

I honestly don't get what your problem is?

Basically, one could call it a reward from the state because one chooses to become a better educated citizen and thus be able to contribute more to soceity in the future.

But let's not get into politics now.;)

So in your opinion, I shouldn't get any money from anyone because that makes me spoiled?

Have you been sniffin' too much glue today?

The intention of state funds are to give the youth money to spend how they see fit, be it clothes, movies, candy, videogames.

Well here it's meant for the basics but the money is technically the parents until the child is 18. At that stage the 18 year old can then collect the money themselves in their own bank account. Of course many parents simply let their kids have the money and it goes into their bank account anyway.

You are not spoilt and your not leeching off the system as long as you continue to study. Basically everyone can shutup. Garg can spend his money how he wishes. Just the same many think that's a big waste of money so please GTFO with the whole fanboy routine. People are more than happy to stick with a single console as it costs a lot less than buying all of them.

I have personally never sniffed glue (with the intention of getting high from it). I have eaten paste however. It was really sweet back when I was a kid so it just seemed like the right thing to do.

That said, I think that reinvesting in one's economy is a good thing. Consumer confidence in the US is at an all-time low and the checks that are being sent out in May will hopefully have some sort of the effect that Bush foresees. Mine will at least. :) I already have all 3 systems though, so I may use this to help the struggling airline industry and go somewhere nice.

Kyorisu, good post, and I will take your advice and stop with my crusade against fanboyism, afterall its only human to be biased.:)

Anyway, as others have said, in the end the most important is your taste in games, best thing you can do is a look at what games are on the PS3 and what are on the 360, and which ones you want the most.

But then it isn't your money that you earned. I doubt the intention of state funds are to buy expensive video game systems.

No the money is intended for exactly as you see fit, I get money for still attending school above the legal age and it is intended for what I want and so I earned it by still continuing to study when I don't need to

Comeon guys, this is supposed to be about the PS3/XBOX - not about money from the state.

I laid my late PC to rest last week. I just bought a PS3 this weekend. My thought process:

1. I bought it for the Blueray player, that by itself is a good deal right now but will surely change as time goes on and stand alone players plummet in price.

2. Aside from being a decent blueray player it can play GTA4. This is the main reason I got it when I did. GTA4!!!!

3. I read about a lot of RROD issues and my friends are now starting to experience it themselves at an ever increasing and frankly alarming rate. Didn't want to deal with that.

4. The DVD format, from what I'm beginning to read more and more frequently, is getting close to max capacity for the bigger games on the horizon. Blueray won't be experiencing that for some time to come.

The 360 has plenty of things that made me consider it including a vast games catalog, top notch live service, price and controller. These things weren't enough for me in the end. Still love the 360 though.

After 5 pages worth of posts, I would hope you'd have picked up on the general consensus we have here:

Research the list of games, pick the system you want that has those games.

This.

PS3 is simply more future-proof as someone said.
That's why I'm also considering getting a PS3 this summer.
A year ago I would probably have got a 360...or a Wii.

I almost forgot. Do the same thing as the GTA4 reviewers are saying about which version to get. Choose the one which you have more friends in online. So if most of your friends have PS3 get it if not get 360. Also you should ask your friends if they are going to get one of the consoles in the near future.
