"Sony Corp., which slashed its profit forecast yesterday, said it may not reach this year's shipment target for the PlayStation 3 game console because of a parts shortage in the Blu-ray high-definition disc drive."

They previously said they would get out 2 million units for US launch. Wonder how many they will hit now. Hope it doesn't make people with preorders wait. That would suck.

I think you are about right for launch numbers. Other places reported 400,000 units for US launch. The 2 million figure I mentioned is for US and Japan by years end. That's all what they said back in Sept anyway.

For gamers that would be great. But I don't think they would want to do that for business financial matters.

You guys are all complaining now, but when the time comes you'll be back on your knees outside the shops begging them for their last PS3. They are such a huge company with such a huge fanbase, it's just inevitable, despite any hitches along the way.

Not quite as bad as it sounds. If that's true then the batteries going bad is pretty much a non-issue and while I doubt Sony will switch it out for free, it sounds like they may give you a deal on getting a new one. Also, it plugs in ... so you'll never be left with a completely lame controller.

One does wonder what the logic behind not letting you replace the batteries was though...

That's good if the batteries last longer than current batteries. Because in my old Logitech wireless mouse the battery started to hold a charge for a noticeably short amount of time within 2 years. Having Sony replace the controller, I wonder what that will involve. And will they replace them even out of warranty? It's too bad that there has to be that hassle when the batteries do indeed run out or can't hold a charge for long. But I guess it is accepted by the industry (ipod anyone?).

Looks like Sony is going to put their Bluray players on hold so PS3 production doesn't get held back.

In fact the last console I ever had was the PS2, and thats because I got it for christmas the year after it came out.

My PC is enough, plus Im always upgrading for work needs anyways, so im always higher end.
