Sales of Sony's best-selling title Resistance: Fall of Man dropped by 66 per cent, nudging it down to number two in the charts, while MotorStorm sales also fell by 62 per cent, as it reversed into the number three position.

Probably doesn't mean much, but it shows that the burst of hardcore PS3 owners might be slowing down drasticly.

PlayStation 3 hardware sales plummet 82 per cent

A spokesperson for Chart Track confirmed the figure to GamesIndustry.biz this afternoon, stating: "Yes, sales of PS3 hardware have dropped by 82 per cent."

Yeah, the sales have been pretty strong for those 2 games. What goes up, must come down.
 
Must be some kind of mistake. Since when do games sell LESS well months after their release? :O
 
If I'm not mistaken that's the UK charts, correct? The console just recently launched there, and I'm sure that almost everyone who got a console also got either Resistance or Motorstorm. Now that the launch is over, sales will obviously die down. The fact that a console that's only been out for a couple weeks has games in both the number 2 and 3 slots is pretty impressive.
 
Yeah, once some other games come out that are actually worth purchasing I am sure these numbers will increase. Everyone in this thread so far has good points though (I especially like the sarcastic ones! ;)).
 
The fastest selling console has now become the slowest, read the updated topic at the top.

Give it a few years, see who's the winner in the long term that's what interests me. I don't care about now.

Already have my PS3 set up as networked media machine. Could have built a HTPC but that's too confusing for my room mates. As for game sales as launch titles pretty much everyone got something. The good stuff is yet to come. Hey resistance is a good game but not polished enough imo
 
As much as I dislike the PS3, Sony, etc, this sort of bashing is just retarded. Of course the games will drop to 2nd and 3rd place directly after launch when the systems haven't been restocked and the system buyers already have some games.
 
Yes the bashing aspect is obvious, but really who cares? Unless your some die hard Sony fan this news would hardly phase you as shocking.
 
I'm not bashing Sony, I'm just giving people something to think about. With all the sudden good news about Sony there are some realistic things to think about.

I personally have a PS3 down stairs, its alright, Resistance is alright and Motorstorm is better than I was expecting. The controller... is bleh... and the blue-ray player is also pritty dam crappy. Online stuff is lacking right now and overall the hardware seems to have power, but no real polished refined software or engineering to back it up.

The reason the EU got such high sales is because they made even more people wait.

I own a 360 and a Wii and honestly out of all of them I think the 360 has the best future. Everyone always says just wait a couple of years and the PS3 will pick up etc... This is exactly what everyone is thinking, even developers. Most developers are holding back the release dates of there games until there are more PS3 consoles out there. By the time this happens the 360 will have a hell of a lot of major releases coming out, not all of them exclusive but definatly have some amazing titles to play.

I also own a Wii and 360. Thing is I don't like Microsoft's method of approaching things and I don't see it going anywhere. In the end yes it's up to the developers and what they want to work with. Just the same how huge is the angsty teen RPG department of Sony fanboys?
 
MGS4! Is all i have to say. Got the system for that 1 game and the BluRay player. Im sure MANY MANY MANY More people are and will do the same.

Just because one game has the most draw doesn't mean there wont be plenty of other games that make it worth it over its lifetime.
 
I highly doubt this dropoff in sales immediately after the launch is uncommon. This is useless to compare/speculate until we get similar data showing 360/PS2/etc. sales trends as well.
 
Hmm, maybe I should go get my PS3 now...

I want to see stats of how many units are sold after MGS4 is released and in Japan how many units are pushed after FF13 drops.

Likewise, I would love to see stats on how many 360s are sold when Halo 3 releases.

I have a feeling in all of those cases price won't play much of a part...but we'll see.
 
Sony is going to do fine this time around, just because stupid people will by the system just because it says "playstation" on it. However, the massive void between 1st and 2nd place that we had last gen is not going to exist anymore. . .

And as far as sales go, i think Wii is going to win by a longshot when it's all said and done.

$250 for the most innovative system out there and Zelda, or $600 for a George Foreman Grill that plays Gundam Crossfire?

The Wii alone is sustenance enough.

Either way, Zken does not require meat to be cooked to be edible.
 
Didn't the sales percentage in Europe dropped 80% not 62%?

EDIT: NM, thought this was about hardware sales.
 
You can still find plenty of PS3s on the highstreet, not so with Wiis.

I dunno if this is just better planning or what.
 
I have a Wii, and I'm selling it for the PS3. I'm sorry, but the games just aren't fun. They're gimmicky, they're lame, and the only thing worth playing is Brawl when it gets released. I beat Zelda, and now my Wii has been sitting here unused for months. Just watch, next year at this time how much the sales for the Wii will have dropped.

I tend not to share Shin's views on this. I think the Wii will only get better. It is darn hard to find one now and the games are not even that stellar! Just wait until the truly great games and especially the big-name franchises hit the system--it will be mayhem incarnate!!
 
I played a Wii for the first time a couple days ago and it was just some weak minigame compilation and I'm hooked forever.

The whole aim your mote at the screen and wave it around deal is just delicious. I could actually feel my motor skills improving.
