It seems that the Playstation Network is having some issues. Over the past two hours or so people have been having problems getting online over PSN and are getting errors when they try to play games. One tipster received an error code of 8001050F and a quick search shows that a lot of people are having the same problem.

Don't worry though, Sony is on the job. They just tweeted, "We're aware that many of you are having problems connecting to PSN, and yes, we're looking into it. Stay tuned for updates." We're sure they're figuring it out now.

Having booted up my PS3 and checked it out I don't seem to be having any issues, but mine is fresh out of the box. It seems that a lot of the people having problems have older versions of the PS3 before the slim landed. We'll keep this post updated to let you know what is up.

Update: Judging from the comments it appears to only be older PS3s that are having the issue. Worse still it is keeping many from playing certain games that evidently require an internet connection even to play the single player. That's some messed up sh*t.

Update 2: From scattered reports and our own experience it has become evident that the PS3's suffering from the issue have had their internal clocks reset along with plenty of Trophies becoming corrupted. Also, this doesn't look good either: http://us.playstation.com/PS3/dearplaystation/. Still no word from Sony officially.

Update 3: Sony updated their Twitter. According to their readers/followers "slim" models are working and only "fats" are glitching and they are narrowing down the source of the issue.

this was really annoying because i can't even play a simple bluray game. also my clock set itself back to 1999 and all these other problems keep popping up. maybe i'll play a ps2 game because my xbox 360 is starting to shit the bed too.

anyone else have the older ps3 and having problems??

Exactly why I won't buy single player games that require an internet connection to play.
 
I turned on my PS3 for shits and giggles. Party like it's 1999!

I was able to change my date and time (not via Internet) and my trophies don't appear to be corrupted. However, I am not able to play a SP game either.

Registration of the trophy information could not be completed.
The game will quit.

M$ sent a virus to cripple the PS3 and rein dominant.

but yeah sounds like a hardware issue to me, but why all of a sudden??
 
They said it was a leap year bug, for Feb. 28th, 2010. If it's jsut the hardware, it should be fine once the clock hits Mar. 1.
 
That's really weird..does sound like the Y2K thing.

My PS3 reverted time & deleted all my GTA IV Trophies, dammit!

My 60GB fat has been working fine, but I was just watching movies last night. I only got a message saying I couldn't connect, but didn't care at the time. Didn't check the clock or playing any games. I will check tonight. Hopefully everything will be back to normal.
 
You gotta be fucking kidding me... I go buy Heavy rain, and psn just end it becouse of regestration of fuckin TROPHIES?!? THIS IS SOME SERIOUS BULLSHIT!
 
I think Sony put out too many SKU's to keep up with. Awhile back my launch 60GB PS3 developed serious problems after a firmware update (that wasn't fixed by following firmware updates). Sony refused to fix it, claiming it was a hardware malfunction unrelated to the update (bullshit, the issues began immediately after it rebooted from the update).

Anyway, I pretty much had to get a new one because I had so much invested in it. I managed to sell the old, broken one to Gamestop for $120 and get a deal on the 120GB Slim at the same time so it didn't set me back too much.

But to whoever said they don't buy games that require an online connection, that isn't what's happening here. I played Heavy Rain the other day while my internet was down with no problem. Internet isn't even required for trophies, they just save them to your PS3 and upload them next time you log on. This is just a hardware error.
 
I get the error message, I just bought the game! It says that Trophy registration failed... Click X to confirm. I confirm and I go right back to the Ps3 menu...

**** you Krynn... Temporary sure, but still, I had no idea about this, Im pissed enough about those damn install and loading screens, and now I can't play the damn game becouse it needs to register stupid trophies. Why can't I just skip that part huh? Silly.
And why shouldn't you be pissed if the bus where to break down? I know I'd be.
 
mine still doesn't work. you can't play PS3 games at all, and i can only watch movies. with BC2 coming out Tuesday I fear I will have to get it for my 360 instead. ****ing technology blows sometimes
 
Good thing I am at work all day then. :) Maybe it'll be fixed by the time I get home!

Also, I never thought of this but 1up is reporting that

Development studios appear to be affected as well; Develop is reporting that industry debug units have been thrown into a "rebooting cycle, due to an endlessly-looping error message."

Well you're a bad person. I dont see how anyone get get pissed over hardware/mechanical faults. That kind of stuff just happens and theres nothing anyone can do except try and fix it after the fact. Getting upset over it doesn't make any sense.

But anyway hardware/mechanical faults are things to get angry at. ****, you buy something and you expect it to work. You can have other stuff depending on it, just to have it fail becouse some stupid reason, and you don't think that justifies you getting angry? I can see the point that it doesn't really solve anything, but how can you not get pissed?
 
The devs can't even work on their games. If the problem lasts too long that could screw some things up.

I've never gotten pissed when something breaks in my car, or when my hardware shits out in my computer. I don't care if I paid for it, I understand than things go wrong sometimes, and I just deal with it in a rational fashion. I could see getting pissed if it was still under warranty or something and the manufacturer wasnt doing anything to fix it, but thats not the case here. So its stupid to get upset. You have anger problems is all.
 
I remenber the times when consoles where just about poping disc/cartrigde and play.....

I think it's a glitch and nothing more. It's clearly a software fix, so no need to replace hardware units. If Microsoft can recover from RROD, Sony should be able to recover quickly from this. Keep in mind it's only the original models, so probably 20 - 25% of the installed base, and that likely fewer than half of users have tried to play in the last 24 hours (I know that I haven't tried). So only around 10% affected, and they will likely have a software patch in place by Friday. If they offer a free Pixeljunk download as compensation, they won't have any complaints.

looks like I'm not getting BC2 for the ps3 this week. i can wait or get it on the 360. really mad though, this is like the 5th time my ps3 has failed in one way or another

Gamefly just sent BC2 for the PS3, so I'm a tad ****ed it seems.
 
Slims are unaffected, for the record. I forget if it's been said or not.
